Did anyone else find Scootaloo's line about looking sad in pictures odd and funny?
It might just be fandom tunnel-vision, but it felt like that might have been a reference to how Scootaloo is so frequently portrayed as an extremely sad or tragic character in fanworks.
Like she has to make a big show of being happy or everyone will assume she must be sad (since that's basically what we did).

Dang, I was expecting a rainbow episode. We haven't had that in a while. Nevertheless, this was a really great episode with lots of "development." e.g. you have Twilight's blueprint of the box posted all over her library implying she has done extensive research on it, The CMC learning some new skills for once (oh my gahd Sweetie Belle learning magic! And entering puberty which is nice but sad :( ) Twilight's princess status actually being recognized for once outside the two first episodes, and pipsqueak is back! Still a major princess-phile like how we last saw him in Lunar Eclipse.

I don't think there was anyone here I hated in particular, which is nice because Pinkie's OOC moment in the last episode left a bad taste in my mouth, not to mention I wasn't really a huge fan of Filli Vanili; it was 100%-- wait no, 150% slice of life. That's nice and all because a large slice (lol pun) of today's episode is slice of life, but unlike Filli Vanili, Twilight time no doubt had a remarkable piece of lore along with it. And unlike some ponies out there, I for one really, really like how much work the writers put into lore and continuity; lore is second to characterization with animation a close third imo.

Also, I think this is a cute little quirk Twilight has recently shown us

Lastly, I think it's pretty brutal how (technically) Applebloom poisoned a living plant

Alright I'm gonna say it. This episode was boring. It felt like nothing happened. Sweetie Belle learned magic so that's something I guess, but that wasn't the focus of the episode so I didn't feel like I should care. The CMC all have their own personality, but they all felt like the same pony in this episode. Didn't have many moments that showed them acting any different from each other. This is the first time since the season opener that Twilight is recognized by others as a princess and not just some other pony, but why now? Why fifteen episodes into season four? No one seem to give a fuck before and suddenly "HOLY SHIT IT'S PRINCESS TWILIGHT SPARKLE I WANT HER AUTOGRAPH!!!" I'm so confused.

That's all I have to say, not a very memorable episode.

That was my first thought as well. I mean, it did provide the set-up to the line right after, but still, the staff are well aware of her fanon position by now. Looking forward to the fan art of Scootaloo being photographed while just standing around normally and the photo coming out looking like this:

This is something I picked up on back in Flight to the Finish. It was probably unintentional, but I think it adds a nice little layer on Sweetie's character. She's not quite as slow as she was in the first few seasons (in my opinion, I imagine others have different views on this), she's gotten more characterization, she's learnt more about friendship and now she even knows magic. She isn't the squeaky voiced little kid she used to be, now she's really showing signs of growing up, which is absolutely lovely.

…and in the next Sweetie Belle episode we're probably going to see her act immature again and then it'll feel a little out of place. Eh, at least I have burgahs.

I heard it's a CMC episode…not going to be any more enthusiastic that Fifths and Disturbed if that's the case…let me know when the next Rarity episode comes along.

In other news, I finally made a Derpibooru account after being peer pressured into it enough.

First thing I did was make a custom filter and fill it with about 50 tags. Reading the whole list of tags sounds like the most offensive troll post anyone's every written on Youtube Comments. But it's so much better using the site with my own filter preferences. Why did I not do this sooner? So…now what?

The episode was adorable, but pretty bleh at times too. I love that CMC episodes are moving away from the three of them trying out as much shit as they can and failing at every one of them and now they are actually learning things that are worthwhile. I particularly like Scootaloo's focus on vehicles and Sweetie just now learning how to use magic to levitate solidifies my headcanon that unicorns tend to learn magic at a later stage in their life. I'm wondering where/if they are going to go anywhere with Apple Bloom's growth potions? Maybe her special talent will have to do with optimizing plant growth in the farm? I see Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are becoming a little more dynamic too. I thought it was funny to see Silver Spoon look like the type of girl that is friends with Diamond for the sake of being popular while Diamond just cares about herself. Also, Twilight telling Diamond off was awesome and satisfying. Other than those things, this episode felt like a bit of a drag. The kids chanting "Twilight time" got really grating, and while it is a good lesson to not let knowing someone famous get to your head it also just wasn't interesting at all. I would bitch about ponies suddenly realizing Twilight is a princess, but I've grown to not give a shit about that anymore. It's sort of trivial in the end. So I guess take the good with the bad on this one.

I remember in the past she's had some pretty good interactions with Zecora, particularly since she was one of the only ponies not to be instantly afraid of her. I suspect that's where the potion making got started. It would be great to see her become apprentice to best zebra.

I think this needs to be discussed. All three of the CMC's voice actors are actually children. Corlett is apparently 14, which means by the time Hasbro derails the ride, she'll be 19. Either the series ends before Gen 4 does, or the writers are gonna have to do something with the CMC. The voice actors' ages means that Status Quo literally cannot remain. I'll be interested to see how they deal with it.

I must say, I think this was one of the best CMC episodes there's been. Not only is there some great characterization for the CMC (Sweetie finally knows magic! Apple Bloom's actually learning about Earth Pony…stuff, etc.) but canon Best Pony makes her triumphant return, and is shown to be assuming a teacher/mentor role quite nicely, while still being incredibly adorkable.

Two complaints. While I'm glad they finally, finally, are using the princess angle, why they didn't shove this episode earlier in the season I don't know. I know that episodes don't necessarily appear in chronological order (meaning this episode could take place right after the season premiere), but it still seems baffling that they couldn't just swap out Power Ponies or Daring Don't with it. Hopefully we'll see more princess plots heading forward, since that's the only important reason Twilight's an alicorn now.

Secondly, fucking DATASS (DiAmond Tiara And Silver Spoon). They gotta start having more original plots than "DATASS are gigantic cunts and the CMC work with/against them." Give me something new. If you've seen one CMC plot, you really have seen all of them. I want something fresh and original, because eventually the CMC need to just stop giving a shit about the two of them and let the [Grimdark] fanfics take over.

Also, Twilight Time officially snaps the streak of character names being in episode titles being part of the "Rainbow Powers" arc. It appears Twilight will most likely get her key in the season finale when Team Plasma attacks the Equestria Games.

Problem with the default filter is that it sometimes doesn't filter out all the diapers, fatties and inflation garbage. Even foalcon manages to slip through it and that stuff creeps me out. But it hides all the sexy Soarburn and Vinyltavia. Why is shipping questionable but diapers and vore isn't?

The stricter filters tend to hide some really good artwork, even if it isn't all that NSFW

Turn the filter off and you get fluffy pony gore…eeeugh…

What the hay is Pinkie doing at Hay burger? Occam's razor would dictate that she's just there to eat, that pony really loves to eat I'm sure you all know. But hey, what if she's actually working part-time there? I mean, that idea isn't a total miss given these points:

• Pinkie said she hasn't seen Twilight in the joint since forever and a half. – This statement could imply our lovable pink pony has been there for a while.
• Pinkie is carrying a tray in this scene. – She could either be bringing her own food (which in this case would be just a glass of milkshake) to her own table, but she could also be on her way to serve that milkshake to a customer -- which by the way would imply that Pinkie is an irresponsible waitress for chatting with Twilight and the CMC.
• Pinkie didn't sit and eat with the CMC and Twilight. – if she is going to eat/drink her milkshake, why didn't she sit with Twilight and the CMC? You'd think the most social pony in ponyville would eat with one of her closest friends instead of looking for a spot that isn't taken somewhere out there and drink that milkshake alone.

Me and my sis could have obviously took things a bit too seriously, but hey, I still think we came up with something pretty reasonable.

A) To an ADHD pony, 5 seconds is "forever and a half" and Twilight obviously doesn't leave the library that often.

B) Maybe she didn't sit with them because she was having a shake with somepony else. She is friends with pretty much everypony, so it's likely she just had prior obligations to sit with them and she learned her lesson about being in two places at once in "Too Many Pinkie Pies."

C) When have you ever known pinkie to sit still in one place for more than 5 seconds. lol.

That doesn't rule out that she doesn't work there, but it explains why she might be there otherwise.

As someone who actually gets her hair dyed at a salon, allow me to present some input

Let's start with the "condemning" image

We see here that Twilight has a piece of crumpled foil in her tail (or poorly drawn curlers, take your pick), and this is somehow condemning evidence that the streaks are dyed. If she was getting her mane dyed then those spa workers sure are doing a shitty job of it.

• When a hair dresser is dying your hair they will put a piece of foil behind the piece of hair they are working on and it is very important that the foil they're using is flat so as to get the color as even as possible. Hairdressers in training will often use boards behind the foil so as to get the technique down. I can guarantee you a hairdresser will not color your hair with that zig-zagged shape in the foil.

• It seems obvious that whatever Twilight is doing with her hair, the application process is done and she is waiting for it to set. When the hairdresser is done coloring the piece of hair they will fold the foil up several times horizontally so that the color can set properly and then put you under one of those dome hair dryers (which we have seen exist in this universe during The Best Night Ever). Leaving the foil open like that is just going to waste the effort the stylist put in.

• Why is there no hair dye on the foil? If hair color was used then there should be pink dye splattered all over that sucker

• Why is she only getting one piece done at a time? We can see that there is more pink in her mane and tail that doesn't look like it's been worked on yet, and if she were getting her pink hair dyed then she should have that foil in all the pink parts of her mane and tail instead of on that one measly piece. And if she only needed that one piece done, why would she even bother going through that time consuming effort for one measly piece?

• The zig-zagged shape of the foil looks very deliberate (notice how her tail matches the shape of the foil) so I would be willing to bet she was getting her tail crimped or curled in some way. This may come as a shock to some, but not all people use hair curlers to get curly hair. People like to use hair curlers to just give their hair a nice shape or a flip at the end. There are thousands of ways curlers are involved in hair styles that are still considered "straight hairstyles"

This, of course, is assuming the animators know a thing about hair styling, which is certainly not a guarantee. My point is, calling this hair dying is a real stretch. Someone in the thread pointed out that she could be having her tail treated with some sort of magical hair potion, and I'd be willing to accept that headcanon. We could also assume that Twilight is a big fat fucking liar and is self-conscious about her mane-dyeing and so only her friends know about it. Characters do have the ability to lie in this show, mind you. The words of the characters do not always reflect word of god.

TL;DR: People on 4chan pretend they know a thing about hair styling, but don't know shit

Yeah, I like the idea that she was just getting her hair repaired. It's reasonable to assume that she doesn't take care of her mane as though its a mane priority. (get it? okay…I'll stop.) I mean, just take a look at this scene from "It's About Time."

I was surprised and proud of the fandom for a shining moment, for once they didn't make a shitload of porn off of some character that appeared for five seconds let along an obviously young pony. But I guess some people saw that picture and took it as a challenge and now the first three pages of the Zippoorwhill gallery are all Foalcon and Suggestive tags hiding the pictures. It was good while it lasted.
