I wonder…

Is unicorn magic dependent on the horn that focuses it? Some unicorn specific form of energy? Or both?

Because assuming it's an energy thing, then if they did something like a levitation spell on a non unicorn, passing the unicorn energy to them… And the non unicorn had a fair idea of how to channel that magic, and possibly a wand… Then… Non unicorn master of magic happens?

That sounds like a semi-not stupid idea for a fan fic. However the only name I can think of for said fan fic is the corny tittle of "Magic Pass".

…But I've got enough fic ideas on my plate I need to get around to… So don't expect me to be the one writing that.

(Of course, for irony, a pegasus would wind up with a magic cutie mark due to all this, while a unicorn winds up with a flying cutie mark for skill with levitation magic. Shipping ensues.)

@Lunar: Wouldn't that be the exact point of wands? Channel magic for Non-unicorns? Because, Unicorns have a build in wand, so (In theory) if an earth pony knew a lot about magic and spells they would use the wand as their catalyst for magic stuff.
Makes sense to me.

Seconded. It seems a bit restrictive when everyone just goes "Okay, post nothing but pictures of Berry Punch for this thread". I'd just like to talk about Pony related things without it turning into every post turning into a different wacky conversation.

I have a feeling the discussion about what to discuss will go on for a good few pages.

Well, we have several options at this point. We could devolve back into /kym/ by talking about how sexy Blue Screen's hooves are or what our favorite pony fetish is (as CrashGordon94 has already done), or we could have one of those useless power level debates that ravage TV Tropes about how powerful unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies are, or we could talk about something that I'd thoroughly enjoy and talk about fanfics. There really are many options.

Earth ponies are stronger, pegasi are faster, and unicorns are a balance. /topic

Also, Blue Screen + pony fetishes = R63 Blue Screen. Somebody needs to art this.

So yeah, it seems Hasbro is currently stuck in a copyright loop where they themselves infringe on their own copyrights. It's pretty hilarious and gives reason to say "what goes around comes around", but I'm just bringing it up for discussions.

I know I keep recommending shows for you to watch, So here's another one, Black Mirror, it's a British satirical drama that comments on modern society, it seems like the type of show many users here would like. Every episode is a short film and none of the episodes relate to each-other story-wise, so you can watch them in any order, I'd recommend this order:

Yeah, I think organized topics should (dare I say it) have a sort of 4chan quality. As a thread is created, it lives or dies based on whether or not others are interested in it. There's nothing wrong with pony spam as long as it's not required or expected. Same with really involved conversation on heavier topics. No need to force anything, but feel free to suggest anything.

I suppose there would be times (if not the underlying foundation) where you just talk about yourselves, but I've said my piece on that which is merely a personal preference.

As for the whole Hasbro biting itself thing, I think that's the restrictive nature of laws. They're generally made to protect something to some extent when breaking the hypothetical law has more benefit to others than not breaking it.

In this case, it seems like the hard nature of laws and their enforcement caused this video to get nixed.
 
But:

1. Considering the channel, they can get that video back up very quickly if they wanted. I'm sure that was an automated takedown based on the images/video.
2. Hasbro probably doesn't make its big money from YouTube. It's probably more of a mosquito bite than anything.

 
But yeah, it is funny. Ironic, even.

One of the ways of making sure their property is presented solely by them has prevented them from presenting that same property.

Yeah, I too tend to prefer actual discussion over random image posting, but this is the lull between seasons.
Can't expect new and interesting topics to be popping up all the time, so what's wrong with a little craziness?

I tend to go with the 'magic as a natural force to be harnessed' theory.
Unicorns have a built-in 'wand' that allows them to focus magical energy into very specific and conscious effects.
Pegasi and Earth ponies live within the same magical field, they just typically lack direct control of it.
Instead, the other two races receive 'passive' benefits.
Pegasi gain the abilities of weather control and cloud-walking (perhaps because their wings act as more diffused focal points for magic) while Earth ponies have a natural, magical connection to the ground and soil.
Under certain circumstances and with lots of training, perhaps an Earth pony could even put that passive connection to active use.
