  • Anakin is 10x more of a Mary Sue than Rey is.
  • The term Mary Sue is disproportionately applied to female characters.
  • Mary Sue's aren't necessarily a bad thing anyway. In certain epic scale stories, over powered characters are actually a good thing. Superman, Anakin and Achilles aren't supposed to be normal people. They're supposed to be larger than life figures facing impossible situations and overcoming them.

@Tchefuncte
Also, a Mary Sue usually doesn't fit the setting or world that the character exists in anyway, usually to act as wishfulfillment or some sort of power fantasy. Superman and Anakin all do things that's possible for people like them in their respective settings, unlike Donut Steel who's stronger than the MC in the setting to look le cool.

On-topic, I believe katanas are really over-rated.

The Nintendo Switch isn't really a good handheld considering its battery life and not a good console considering its specs, also it has framerate issues when playing Breath of the Wild. I think this launch was rushed

The only hope is that the 3rd parties provide

They really are. Everyone has this hard-on for everything Japanese that they forget that the original katanas were actually pitiful due to the metal that was available to the Japanese at the time they were forging the original swords. They had to sift the metal out of sand and dirt and had to be careful not to mix the blade with others metals.

Lockstin did a good job explaining my point in his video about For Honor

Katanas were pretty much not that great due to the metal they had at the time. A 1d4chan page did mention how the weapon is overblown and it's disadvantages.
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Katanas_are_Underpowered_in_d20

That said since a weapon can fall under unpopular opinions, I wanna throw my own but with armor: I feel chainmail is overused and outside of the Witcher and Mount & Blade, the gambeson isn't given much love.

I think there was a reason for Chainmail's.. iconic status. Mainly the association with Knights and thus with medieval and fantasy works. Most of which forget or ignore that the Knights were likely a part of the military

Speaking of misconceptions about archetypes. No. Real ninjas usually did not wear all black suits covering everything but the eyes. That was a myth they likely inverted themselves. Their actual means of camouflage was to disguise themselves as peasants or traveling salesmen, you know, people you wouldn't expect to assassinate you.

It was actually a stunt in a play. See, the stagehands wore the black and the audience was expected to ignore them. Then one playwrite had the idea of having a character assassinated by one. What a tweest, etc, then it sort of mutated from that.

Katanas join the ranks of longbows, elephants, early-era firearms, the Tiger tank, and the T-34/76 in the hierarchy of overrated weapon systems.

OT- Fire Emblem heroes is shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. P2W, braindead, and doesn't even allow for shipping (shipping is important, it's always been important). At least pokemon go was a weird social experiment.

I can't help but feel that this would only be an unpopular opinion here, but…
For all the horrible stuff Trump and his administration wants to do, I'm honestly pretty disappointed that people on this site don't seem to be bothered by it; it seems like they actively side against anyone who opposes Trump, thinking that they are over-reacting, or that because some anti-Trump people did some stupid shit (like the UC Berkeley riots), it automatically invalidates everything that anti-Trumpers did. A lot of people are worried about the stuff he could (and has) done, and a lot of people are going out of their way to get involved in politics and activism, yet this site seems to look down on them in general.

Speaking of which, it only convinces me that this site overall leans toward the right; I'll admit that it annoys me, as a leftie, but then again, why the fuck am I worrying out the political position of a fucking meme site?

More political stuff, but Trump and his administration have influenced me to greatly dislike anti-SJWs and the alt-right in general: SJWs may be annoying, but they don't even matter to me anymore when Trump and the alt-right are proving to be even bigger issues in themselves. I mean holy shit. We were all fucking stupid back then. All this bitching about SJWs and feminazis wanting to destroy culture and gaming, but now we have Trump and Bannon wanting to destroy a lot of stuff we care about, while actively engaging in racist, divisive shit. Hillary was a weak candidate, but at least this shit wouldn't have happened. Sure, Trump may have gotten more people to get off their asses and actually get involved in politics so a shitty situation like this never happens, but I don't know if it's worth the damage Trump and his cronies will do to the US.

What do I know, though? I'm probably just fear mongering in the end, even though I probably have nothing to worry about.

4chan as a whole is far-right and of poor quality.

I wish people would stop pretending that it's a bastion of freedom and objectivity because it's critical of 'social justice warriors'. One of the most active boards is colonised by neonazis and people who think pretending to be neonazis is a time-worthy hobby. Nowadays people have used their distaste for 'political correctness' to circlejerk so far right that they're defending fascists because a feminist was mean to them once.

I get that a lot of people have a 'look the other way' attitude towards the site because it's where a lot of internet culture comes from. But then again, it's also my opinion that internet 'culture' as a whole is awful.

Moving on, the Chan boards are only 'pro-free speech' in that the userbase is against facing consequences for their own actions. The standards of decency we collectively set as a society (anti harassment & hate speech for instance) are called censorship because they're antithetical to 4chan's sophomoric behaviour.

This behaviour involves threatening people and telling them to commit suicide for the crime of having an opposing opinion. Doesn't sound like frozen peaches to me.

I know its a old post but 4chan was never free speech beyond using it as a shield for being toxic judgmental pricks. The owner made anything furry a bannable offence while branding the site as a say anything you want place & brony stuff had a contamination board.

Hell a former 4chan mod who did a Reddit AMA. Pretty much admitted that allot the nasty shit that site did was because non of the other mods did there jobs & just ignored people attempting raids/CP being posted. So even before its popularity it already was a rotten shithole & it becoming clear moot just had delusions of grandeur of the sites direction.

Not sure if this counts as unpopular, but I actually like all three stories in Fire Emblem Fates. I agree the stories have flaws and such, but the games still hit me on an emotional level. It definitely hit me when playing Conquest after Birthright, and it made me happy to see both sides unite in Revelation.

Again, I agree the stories are flawed. If you ask me, Birthright's basic but makes the most sense, Conquest's is a mess but the climax was satisfying, and Revelation had good twists but rushed as hell. I feel that people just think more of the negatives than the positives when it comes to Fates.

While I do like Filthy Frank and iDubbbz, I feel like they also brought on a huge onslaught of unoriginal "edgy" try-hard humor as well, though thinking about it, it's probably Leafy that helped bring this try-hard "edgy" humor to the fray.

-RWBY is not really my cup of tea because I don't like the art style
-I watch Steven Universe only because I'm more intrigued about where the gems species civilization come from than what's their feelling, because come on dude
the gems peoples are just rocks, you know like imitating life as some kind of machines or robots.
I mean, do you really expect those things to have souls?

Since i just a bought lou reed's metal machine music i love it, its melodic in really odd way while still being very harsh. Honestly 90% of the hate the album gets are by people who willfully never explore music that is beyond just standard conventions.

I dislike most pre-90's metal and rock music. A lot of it features just OK guitars, horribly boring and uninspired drums, and insufferable screeching vocals.

On the other hand, 80's pop music >>>>>>>>>>>>>> modern pop music.

The Beatles are the most overrated thing in the Universe. Sure, they were good for their time, but that's about it. When people in this day and age claim they made some of the best music ever I can't help but cringe.

YouTube pundits often have a laughable high-school tier understanding of history, economics, political theory, and anthropology. All they do at this point is beat the dead horse of identity politics to generate revenue and inflate their egos.

I've never really a fan of video game mods. I've always been of the opinion that if you feel that you need to mod a game to get any enjoyment out of it, you're probably better off just finding and playing a game that's already tailored to your tastes.

Despite being a fan of comic books, I've always felt that comics essentially became obsolete the moment manga gained widespread popularity in the west. For the most part, there isn't really anything comics can do that manga can't, and that it can't do better.

I unironically like Smash Mouth's All Star. I also unironically like Adam Sandler's Click. Although to be fair it has been a while since I saw the latter so it may have not aged well.

I don't like most metal bands from the mid 90s onwards. And the few that I do listen to are mostly thrash, power, and traditional heavy metal ones.

Breath of the Wild's English dub gets a lot of flack, but I actually like the voice of Zelda. It's true that she, like all the others, sounds kind of amateurish, but she has some serious redeeming qualities. The big complaint is that the VA doesn't sound emotional enough, but I think that is appropriate for the character. Zelda is analytical and emotionally repressed. You can find a secret journal in Hyrule Castle that mentions her mother died when she was six and didn't cry at the funeral because she didn't think she was supposed to. More importantly, the muted emotions make her sound exhausted after a lifetime of crushing responsibility. The character grew up with the knowledge that a potentially world ending event is inbound and it is up to her to save everyone. For ten years she fruitlessly prepared with minimal support. A full decade of failure, stress, and loneliness. All while being forced not to pursue the subjects she actually found worthwhile: engineering, botany, medicine, etc. Oh, and then she locked herself in a castle and fought a monster for a century. So, yeah, it makes sense for her to sound tired and worried and lonely. Compare that to the Japanese voice, which sounds more naturally panicked in the face of imminent destruction, but loses the seriousness and exhaustion. Japanese Zelda also sounds very squeaky and childlike. I guess you could make the argument that she was young when the calamity happened and didn't age during her time in the castle, but I prefer the idea that Zelda was forcibly aged beyond her years while still a teenager. The English dub has problems, but Zelda, despite her flaws, is a high point.

I just think they look and sound cool, but as for an actual vehicle that are way too overpriced for a shiny motorcycle.

Reverse racism does not exist. There is only racism: discrimination and prejudice directed towards people based on their race or ethnicity [Wikipedia]. Anybody can be discriminated against. Saying some people experience more discrimination than other people is valid provided it can be backed up with evidence.

However, claiming that people can't experience discrimination demonstrates prejudice in itself and therein, racism. The claim ignores legitimate discrimination that people may face, whether it be from individuals with or without power, or from an institution.

I am still looking forward to Yooka-Laylee despite what happened behind the scenes, because that has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself. Plus, I have been backing Yooka-Laylee for almost two years; it's way too late for me to suddenly give up on the game.

You'd think this wouldn't be the unpopular opinion, but the entries tell me otherwise…

In terms of unpopular opinions :
As an Asian American who doesn't watch much movies (but is interested in a few), I can't really give much fucks about GITS being accused of whitewashing. I have an interest in wanting to see the movie and at this point, I feel like even if the movie had an Asian lead play a brain in the body of a cyborg, the movie itself could still end up being bad.

With all this stock buying, people are forgetting what's really important: the memes. So while you might not have invested in that one stock you could have, as long as you got enough KYMcoins to put lulz on the table, you're set.

I simply fail to get the big deal about pizza. I don't enjoy it nearly as much as everyone seems to, I get odd looks and comments whenever I state this, I don't find it being easier to order a good reason to ask for it so I have never ordered a pizza ever, and it's so damnably ubiquitous I actually have to resist the impulse to argue against it and call it shit because this just seems like an opinion someone should have and I am honestly tired of pizza being such a big thing.

im so tired of all the youtube bashing that doesn't even try to give a solution. its become cool to bash youtube and basically call them incompetent but so few of them pitch realistic solutions if any or even give the basic background details about what lead to youtube being the way it is. im all for constructive criticism especially when it comes to you lively hood but it you dont even suggest a solution its basically pointless.

What are you talking about? Most Youtube bashing takes the form of "Don't do (insert latest Youtube fuck-up here)"

yeah but they rarely look at why youtube is doing the stuff there doing or look for other solutions to what the problem was addressing. like when the youtube heroes mass flagging thing was announced to moderated youtube people just immediately called it stupid and said people would abuse it with out giving any sort of alternative to moderate youtube. not saying youtube heros was a good thing but it just feels like no one is actually arguing how to fix youtube just that youtube is broken.

Rick and Morty S3E1 did a bad bad thing.
Nuked all the character development, destroyed most of the world building from two seasons, and glossed over several episodes worth of plots in order to rush what could have been good.

Assuming it wasn't a fantasy sequence, the episode threw away an entire season worth of content for McNuggy sauce

Norway > England x5000

Norway's a beautiful country with a rich history and culture. Sure it's expensive to live in and there aren't many people and therefore diversity, but it's still a lovely nation.

England, or should I say London really, was an enjoyable trip when I visited 2 summers ago. Most people I met were friendly and contrary to what people say the food's fine. I'm also partial to rainy weather, so that was a plus. Actually residing there is another story. But that's the case with just about every nation I suppose.
