My two cents in the wake of the US election: Use these results and fallout as a learning experience. Now with the Facade of being civil falling off more than ever there's going to be clear cut cases of projection and "what ifs" citing control.

I mentioned I had a sibling, well not technically true, I have siblings. And my whole family is rather left oriented. So far each one blames a different reason as to why the result ended as it did.

One blames that the awarding majority would have been democrat if Gary Johnson wasn't an option. Not understanding that the Libertarian party is just as Democratic or Republican as Water is for Pepsi or Coca-cola. Another blames the IQ of the country and that everyone on the opposing side must be an idiot. And another just wants to move to a more liberal country.

Me? I just see that polarization is the cause. View all and any opposition as not your equal, as below and you're going to lose. Build your echo chamber and get crushed by reality. As a result those that kept believing enemies were everywhere are now seeing enemies everywhere. The narrative is being exposed. And I'm going to keep documenting the Gamergate side of it.

Even if I have to report from Sweden.

Trump may not be ideal, but some of the negative reactions to his victory are pretty lulzy. From blaming GamerGate to saying that "Make America Great Again" is code for putting power back in the hands of white men, it's quite funny. And the media and news sites did a bad job in some parts covering the election, and that kind of stuff did ironically help Trump to an extent.

It will be interesting to see how the media and certain kinds of activists conduct themselves during these next 4 years. I wonder if they'll change some things or keep doing what they always have. Who knows?

The basic issue that killed Clinton's campaign is that she pushed the working class under a bus and pandered to identity politics.

She supported the TPP until it was inconvenient then flip-flopped, she sent out of a bunch of out-of-touch celebrities like Lena Dunham for PR, and all-in-all she was incapable of saying "the economy isn't working for a lot of people" & just called everyone who opposed her bigots.

The Rust Belt has been hit worse than any other part of America by the past 30-40 years of economic policy, now look at how it voted.

Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, combined they have 64 electoral votes, enough to put Hillary in the white house. Now Ohio is a swing state that has gone with the winner in every election since '64 but the other three have been Democrat territory since the 80s.

The white working class that put Trump in office was also Bernie's most loyal constituency, if the DNC & Hillary hadn't sabotaged him then the Republicans wouldn't have the White House & probably not the Senate either (Feingold losing in a presidential year? That's not something that can happen with even minimally competent backing).

But from what I've seen a bunch of democrats are doubling-down on identity politics & trying to pretend Bernie would have done worse (usually via assuming that all of Trump's voters are white nationalists who would vote even more if he was running against a Jew).

It's basically how AntiGamer handled GamerGate: be absolute shit at their job, smear their opponents with blatant bullshit, call everyone who isn't 100% on their side bigots, double-down once they fail.

You'd think that after the "Nazi Frog" speech turned out to be her Dukakis in the Tank Moment they'd back off on the "Muh Pepe" propaganda.

News has been kinda slow when relating to gamergate… well short of blaming it for the whole Trump election thing.

Here's what news I could scrounge up relating to GG as is now:

A collective of PC Gamer ignoring Gamergate for reasons

Twitter: An anti-GGer tries to make a claim that GG is posing as BernieBros:"http://archive.is/G59AM"

roberthaha wrote:

Hey its Grossman. The man who's "research" was so bad an entire police council broke down step by step what he got wrong.

http://www.theppsc.org/Grossman/Main-R.htm

Other news:

Nerds are Faschists

Minecon presenter claims gamergate is responsible for all things bad online

Concerns that are somewhat related:
There's an abundance of "fake news removal" that's being touted lately. As an archiver, I've seen first hand now news can be generated on a fake source to be treated as fact. (most recent being that Ben Carson was going to be in charge of the Department of Education, when the source was a buzzfeed list speculating cabinet members after the election.) Trust but verify what you hear, as some credible sources may be removed simply because they were deemed fake without any proof proving the claim.

roberthaha wrote:

> There’s a proven correlation between video games and gun violence, yet we still allow our children free access to these games, breeding an assassination generation.

Meanwhile in reality…

Lenny Guy wrote:

"David Grossman". I think Glenn Beck used that guy as a source for his "why video games cause violence" rhetoric after Sandy Hook.

He's OG AntiGamer, worked with Jack Thompson, invented the term "murder simulators", the whole nine yards.

The hysterics coming from these people are ironically what's going to effectively kill the left. Imagine for years that your party, your movement, your ideas will be associated with what's basically stage 4 social cancer.

roberthaha wrote:

We've come a long way from the times when you people could bully us "GoofyGoobers" with total impunity, haven't we SJWs?

@A Concerned Rifleman

Nah, the left is going to be in the political wilderness for a while then come back after the cancer has been fed to wolves. When you don't have much influence you can't afford to protect the idiots from consequences for their behavior and all the power-hungry psychos will gravitate to the other side because they want to be able to do whatever they please to everyone else (remember when BatWu & Methwhale were Republicans?).

Same thing that happened after the Dubya administration went down in flames.

A Concerned Rifleman wrote:

No, it's more like Terminal 7 social cancer.

Alright, I know y'all have been mostly left to do your own thing, but y'all have spent a lot of time off-topic. We have rules about that, and as moderators we need to enforce them.

Some of the statements I'm concerned about (just on this page alone):

Camron Lee uses twitter to tell people how to vote, and gets torn a new one.
According to the Guardian, KYM is actively participating in the suppression of acceptable speech
SJW twitter right now:
Twitter just scrubbed an embarrassing response to the ADL while I was adding it to the Nazi Pepe Controversy page. The post is visible if you go directly to its URL, but no longer appears in the thread. Thought you might like to know.
The basic issue that killed Clinton’s campaign is that she pushed the working class under a bus and pandered to identity politics.

(And literally everything else in that post)

Milo speech shut down on fear of inciting a riot from those opposed to him speaking

So, here's some points I need to make:

  • Not all discussion of censorship is related to GamerGate
  • Not everything a GG-related figure does is related to GG
  • Not everything SJWs do is related to GamerGate
  • The election has its own thread.

We established the first 3 back when GamerGate was still strong on the site. People got in trouble in for uploading the latest statement Sarkeesian made that they didn't like to the GG gallery, and less. The same rules apply to the forums.

If y'all want the thread to stay open (and to not get in trouble), please try to at least stay around the topic of video game censorship and journalism, and keep things that have its own thread already (like the election) to its own thread.

This just in from Cracked.

Madden is now a game about killing people.

Nuffle and Bloodbowl can go the realm of oblivion. Clearly regular American football is where all the murder and death is at.

To be fair he says "4 of the 5 biggest games of 2016 are just about killing" but in all honesty if you play fallout 4 just for killing people, your missing 50% of the game. If you play GTA just to kill people your missing 80% of the game. And if you play Black ops 3 just to kill people, you missed the intense existential story and loads upon loads of unique touches in the game. Battlefront itself has a diorama mode, which I'm sure someone must care about.

Regardless of whether not you believe the games are only about killing (which they obviously aren't, because there's customization and non-killing content in all those games). The idea that the entire audience needs to change to accomodate non-violent material is not only completely naive but also delusional.

Its naive because there's no way violence is not popular. Violent movies dominate the charts in 2016 (with like 3 animated movies being non-violent). Without even looking, I can only guess that books have a similar trend. The simple fact of the matter that people like interesting things. Interesting things are relative and rely on being something that individuals are unlikely to experience first-hand. So that leaves violence, weird confusing abstract things and overly idealistic romances\really coincidental comedic events. Going back to the past, the Colosseum was very popular even when it wasn't a fight to the death. So the only real way to fix the love for violence is to start breeding the population so that genetically it favors pacifism. But that's eugenics so good luck with that.

It's also delusional because it implies that violence is the only means for success (hence the need to change the audience so that "better" alternatives are available). There exists plenty of puzzle games and walking simulators. If these people really wanted these games to be successful, they'd stop breeding siege mentality by calling for an audience purge which of course, increases the hostility towards these types of games. If people get the impression that every successful walking simulator means continued attacks on gamers, walking simulators are going to die. You need only look at Sunset and The witness (which was successful but not enough to cover development costs, probably because the developer admitted he was anti-gamer). By calling for an audience change, you're asking people to not be themselves so that things will get better for you and not them.

@MrKillUltra: Here's a summary from a publisher on the matter

Basically the tie in is that the Cracked list tried to re-define gamergate as some sort of White Supremacist group.

So to get this straight:
Gamergate has been accused of,
Hatred of women
Berniebros
Trump Supporters
Alt-Right
White Supremacy

There's probably more labels about Gamergate but one thing's constant. A declaration of Gamergate in most articles tries to pin it as a group of negativity/offense. Even though the usually un-sourced offense changes every quarter or two.

Lenny Guy wrote:

He also says he doesn't want to identify as a gamer because GamerGate and that it's essentially linked with white supremacy (lolwut).

Wait wait wait. If we're white supremacists… why are we, by their own admission, targeting white journalists and white female developers?

MrKillultra wrote:

Because falsely shift the goalposts.

@Garde: obviously Gamergate is a bunch of alt-right Berniebros, women-hating 2nd wave feminists, white supremacist #notyourshield, and leftist Trump supporters who harass women named Jonathan McIntosh and Phil Fish by disagreeing with them on the internet. At least that's what the news says.

Lenny Guy wrote:

That's called giving up. When you stop fighting to keep horrible people like white supremacists from claiming something, and just let them have something, you essentially give them the platform you complain about them being allowed to have. If they are so repulsed by the term "gamer", they have no one ot blame but themselves for allowing "gamer" to be associated in the public mind with white supremacy by propagating the fact that white supremacists own it. Word association is a completely abstract and subjective thing, there is no objective ownership of a term by a specific group unless efforts are actively made to make it so, such as instructing people of that fact in an attempt to denounce the word and the group you associate with that word.

Of course, that's taking his claim at base value. Mostly people associate gamers with people who have no lives, bad hygiene, and the mental and social capacity of a deranged sea-snake. But again, that's more on them for associating the term with those people.

And both associations are based on lies. As we have learned after these two or three years of protesting against corruption in media and attempts at censorship or manipulation of content is that we, gamers, are normal people who are passionate about something and grew tired of seeing others trying to change what we love into something only a handful of people like.

But that's hard!

On a serious note it's not just "gamer" that we've taken, there's a bunch of other words we've taken from SJWs like "ethics" & "free speech". It's pretty cool how we can endorse motherhood & apple pie and watch SOCJUS rush to denounce Mr. Rogers & support puppy-kicking.

Good. The more despicable they make themselves look, the better.

…Man, after the buzz months ago, GG feels like a few dozen scattered people quietly clicking away in a complex designed for tens of thousands.

Well. Some of us have moved to engage SJWs more directly and in our own homeground. I live in Latin America, you would be surprised how large the SJW infection is around here. GamerGate became part of a larger fight, a fight against pseudoscientific, racist, sexist, discriminatory, fundamentalist, irrational, authoritarian, anti scientific, unethical, and overall insane ideology.

Unfortunately, this can't be conveyed here. So to avoid tangent's in this thread, report on things directly concerning Gamergate it is currently understood: Ethics in Videogaming.

That said, a direct tie in currently is Nathan "I do not have sexual relations with that woman" Grayson. The guy who was romantically involved with Zoe "CON" Quinn (AKA Chelsea Van Vulkenberg) and kicked off the Quinspiracy leading to the Gamergate, attempts to rewrite history concerning the matter

Mundane "Candid" Matt, Explains why this is completely false.

What a cuck.

It seems like both sides are, imho, hypocrites. Cause the alt right says horrible things and that they'll do or embrace horrible stuff but never commits to embracing them. While the alt-left talks about never being violent and accepting everyone, but have an ever growing number of violent crimes and mob rule on their side. Both of them need to change what they say or commit to the bit they are selling people on.

Garde wrote:

Gamergate gets re-defined again in the NYT as some sort of Alt-right mysogonistic losers that pick on Feminist Game Designers.

Another score to Terry Bollea and his involvement with ethics in Journalism (Why? Becuase, Nick Denton blames Hulkmania and Gamergate for his fall.)

And another attempt at revisionist history on Gamergate with unproven facts and other falsehoods.

They still haven't learned, tossing everyone who wasn't with them 100% of the way into the GamerGate just made GamerGate stronger & more durable, and now when they're dealing with the "alt-right" they decide to start throwing everyone who notices the economy is getting worse for average people, Islam has issues with murderous extremism, and the DNC is a gang of crooks into the "alt-right" pit.

The histrionic denunciations that Bernie Sanders got after saying that identity politics isn't enough to win the white house is giving me flashbacks to how David Auerbach's plan to kill GamerGate was received. His own side's leaders wants to burn him at the stake for pointing out their dogma is wrong & that they're going to have to acknowledge their enemies' legitimate grievances while the enemy is saying "yep, that's a good plan".

If history repeats itself then Bernie Sanders is going to end up hanging around with parts of the alt-right while they take inspiration from him and the DNC is going to have no clue how they memed BernieBros into a real thing.

Right now the DNC & MSM are where AntiGamer was in early 2015 or the RNC was in 2009, they're headed for a time of heresy-hunts, ideological ossification, and constant declarations of victory as they fall on their face again & again.

The RNC eventually realized that supporting every crazy right-winger while tossing their sane membership under a bus wasn't working and Trump came along to remake them, AntiGamer just keep doubling-down and at this point is far along the terminal decline.

Sad thing is I can see Brianna Wu running for office in 2020 as a "Tru Progressive" and knocking Ed Markey out in the primaries before saying a bunch of dumb shit that hands the Republicans a Massachusetts Senate seat. It's what Richard Mourdock did to Indiana Republicans in 2012 and as seen during GamerGate there's no shortage of people willing to burn themselves & everything they have to the ground over virtue-signaling.

MTV Doubles down on the narrative with a new video about privilege:

Luckily Appabend is there to try and set the record straight.

What is this? Love:Reset, a video that's supposed to look at the concept of privilege. As a result it contrasts a White Male Cis Gamer with an Insecure Indian Female using GTA points and A checklist!

(Watch the first movie to get mad, watch the second to realize just how bad it is.)

@Garde

That kind of reminds me of Degrassi making an episode months ago, literally called "Not All Men", that covered stuff like video games and sexism and so forth. There was a white boy who was really angry that people are triggered by so much nowadays and takes a keyboard and throws it on the ground. Pretty sure that was their skewed interpretation of us. Some of the comments on the video were tearing it apart, though. Anyways, the MTV thing might be something like that where the people who made it have a warped view on things, making it easy to ridicule.
