Sky News Live Report

"At least 18 people were killed and “many wounded” in a series of attacks in Paris by gunmen armed with kalashnikovs and grenades on Friday evening, police said.
Grenades were reportedly thrown at a stadium in the north of the French capital where a football match between France and Germany was being held, witnesses said.
The first shooting to be reported took place at a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the city, an area with many crowded bars and restaurants, particularly busy on Friday evening.
A second shooting was reported minutes later near a nightclub in the area, Le Bataclan, where gunmen were said to be holding hostages. Later grenades were said to have been thrown at a stadium in the north of the city where a football match between France and Germany was being held.
Large numbers of police rushed to the scene of the first attack, a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital. They evacuated nearby bars and restaurants.
The motive of the shootings is unknown, but Parisians feared that terrorists had again attacked the French capital, where 17 people were killed in a series of attacks in January that began with the shootings of staff at the office of the Charlie Hebdo magazine. Sirens were heard throughout central Paris."

The hostage situation is currently still ongoing if we have to believe police, so there's not much news about it yet other than it taking place at the Bataclan Concert Hall where a garage band would be playing tonight.

Well, I gotta get rid of my other post now. You beat me to it.
Anyway, what's been going on in France this year?
There was the Charlie Hebdo attack in January, then the train gunman who was tackled by US soldiers, and now this…

France has the largest Muslim immigrant population of any EU country, plus they were the first country to physically assist the US with airstrikes in the region. ISIS has been openly targeting France since then, calling for lone wolf and coordinated group attacks from Muslims in the country.

They also promised an attack in Russia "soon" in a video a few days after they bombed that Russian passenger plane out of the sky, so they should be even more on guard in light of this.

Just 5 minutes ago the supposed death toll has gone up from at least 18 to at least 26.

Edit after Blubber's post: It seems the death toll varies per souce, but yeah it's increasing.

This was planned well in advance of JJ's (supposed) death. Nobody has actually 100% confirmed that ya'll know. Cameron is especially unwilling to confirm.

CNN reporting there are ~100+ being held as hostages/firing fodder (tweets from reporters speaking to people on scene have said they're firing a shotgun into the crowd inside, idrk that I would call them "hostages" unfortunately).

Sky News is live on scene if you want to watch first hand.

BFMTV in France reports 40 dead.

Another shooting at a high profile shopping mall just happened…

Bataclan gunmen confirmed to have explosives in the theater according to French police.

Currently reading stuff of 35+ of the hostages dead, and witness reports saying the hostage takers did scream "allahou ackbar" during a gunfight with the authorities.

It could have been al-Q, ISIS usually has their flag out.

Shooting reported at the Louvre.

Reporters were just getting info on this when Obama started speaking, so this is pretty unconfirmed. They're getting it off social media. Pompidou too now? Isn't that a library? I don't know some of the places they're referring to very well, but according to social media there are a lot more attacks.

Obama speaking right now, Sky News is broadcasting at the link I posted earlier.

dear god he is seriously the worst speaker, he's said nothing, don't bother.

Difficult to have a proper speech with the events being so fresh AND still ongoing.

I doubt anyone could've done a proper job there outside of people who have this as their job.

Reporters say "most likely coordinated", well no shit there sherlock.

Plenty of leaders have done it before, he falls apart without a teleprompter. "I have chosen not to call Hollande right now because he's probably pretty busy… you know by chance I was talking to him earlier…" like what the fuck are you talking about?

Hollande himself just said in his statement he's declaring an emergency and shutting down the borders effective immediately, army has been mobilized.

"Security forces are assaulting a site" but it doesn't appear to be the theater. Don't know where atm.

This must have been done by al-qaeda.

ISIS is already claiming responsibility through social media and forums, I'm reading.

Please don't tell me you're just trying to blame the competititon because you used to be an ISIS supporter.

Oh god, first Charlie Hebdo, and now this. I fear France may end up becoming one of the most unsafe countries in Europe these days because of these events. My thoughts go out to the innocent civilians in Paris.

I fear France may end up becoming one of the most unsafe countries in Europe these days because of these events.

I'm curious as to what you think was the reason that France is becoming unsafe in the first place.

From what I have heard al-qaeda has a history of random international lone wolf attacks including charlie hebdo so I assume it is done by the same people.

Also those days were the shameful days.

According to an hostage who managed to connect to his facebook account during the firefight, the death toll keeps getting higher, the hostage takers are killing people one by one.

Borders are closed, so are the metros, effective now, and that's more or less everything i know.

Some reports say that attackers did say nothing and just opened fire, other say that attackers say something in the lines of "allahu akbar" and "this is for syria".

AP quotes French policemen confirming two suicide attacks and one bomb blast outside of the stadium, 3 known dead, many injured.

Completely different issue, take it some where else.

Now all of the news sites are publishing pieces on how "Syria is a training camp" where British/French/etc citizens are going to learn bomb building/terrorist techniques and then returning to Europe to do things like this.

Which is, you know, what conservative parties pushing for border control have been saying for years at this point. Maybe people will start to take it seriously now.

Highly ironic quote from an Obama interview earlier today: { “I don’t think they’re gaining strength,” Obama responded. “What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq, and in Syria they’ll come in, they’ll leave, but you don’t see this systemic march by ISIL across the terrain.” }

It's completely relevant, will you people stop at nothing to stay eternally PC?
This is the first time a country has closed its borders in response to terrorism since 9/11.
This will have enormous effects on how the rest of the migrant crisis is handled.

5 explosions just heard at the theater.

Oh shit they're showing footage right now on Sky News. Sounds like fireworks.

Not the fucking moment for political bullshit, thank you.

Completely different issue, take it some where else.

If the purpetrators happen to be the alleged ISIS members who got into Europe by way of the lax immigration laws, then I'd imagine it would be quite relevant.

Friday the 13th. Seriously! It's like it was made on purpose.

Seems planned:

>French President was at stadium when first explosions happened.

Although this is the same day Jihadi John is declared kill…

Attacker in Paris concert hall shouted 'Allahu akbar', fired into crowd, witness says

wtf is this shit? no word yet if Al-Qæda or IS or whoever is behind this.

Good to see that everybody on Twitter learnt NOTHING from last time and are once again posting police movements in real time. Fucking genius.

Police asked for communication silence around the Bataclan due to this.

Reddit is at least keeping those updates away from their news feed.

If this requires more then the french authorities can handle on their own, what are the chances that neighboring European countries can lend their forces to get things at least under control?

Blaming 1.5 Billion Muslims for religious distorting terrorism is just as bad when we compare a Billion Christians for the KKK.

Though it may not be fair to blame these events on the refugees, it is fair to blame the system that allowed all of them in without bothering to check their backgrounds.

no one here is blaming all muslims.

Nobody's blaming 1.5 billion Muslims, they're blaming Islam, but we'll see how many turn out into the streets to celebrate this one, just like Iran's full blown day of celebration in "honor" of the Tehran embassy attack. Tens of thousands in the streets chanting "death to America"!

Who do you all think these British/French/etc citizen terrorists are, like Jihadi John? Radicals who grew up under rocks in Syria? They were born in the EU! They went to school, they held normal jobs, then they went to the Middle East to learn terrorism and your countries welcomed them right back in, because ordering bans and stops on travel to the Middle East from European countries is racist and xenophobic don't ya know?? How's that logic looking now?

Reuters reporting 2 attackers have been killed, I think at the theater?
It's hard to follow, reports coming in right now.

I never said that the system had no problems in the first place. Open borders is nothing but a Billionaires policy in order to hire cheap in foreign labor as well.
