Shooting, Explosions, and a Hostage Situation, in Paris

It was at the theater, police reporting the 2 attackers there are dead, no word yet on death toll/injuries.

CNN is reporting an arrested man is saying he is with ISIS.
Haven't heard anything about that via Sky News.

This is absolutely horrifying.

Local news just reported that the city of Paris is on a curfew for the first time since WWII. 12 hostages have reportedly been rescued, thank goodness.

Nobody's blaming 1.5 billion Muslims, they're blaming Islam, but we'll see how many turn out into the streets to celebrate this one, just like Iran's full blown day of celebration in "honor" of the Tehran embassy attack. Tens of thousands in the streets chanting "death to America"!

Who do you all think these British/French/etc citizen terrorists are, like Jihadi John? Radicals who grew up under rocks in Syria? They were born in the EU! They went to school, they held normal jobs, then they went to the Middle East to learn terrorism and your countries welcomed them right back in, because ordering bans and stops on travel to the Middle East from European countries is racist and xenophobic don't ya know?? How's that logic looking now?

Reuters reporting 2 attackers have been killed, I think at the theater?
It's hard to follow, reports coming in right now.

Actually Lisa, if you see other media, that is exactly what they are doing. Plus the teaching of Islam condones violence against others. According to your logic, if cars kill more people than terrorism, we should ban all cars then?

Amen.

Truly a dark day for France and all of Europe. I pray for all of them that this violence ends soon.

A tweet from someone in France:

"I'm still in Bataclan. Badly injured ! They have to raid the place asap. There are survivors inside. They are executing everyone. One by one. 1st floor quickly !!!!"

Holy shit, this is seriously terrifying.

And all of France is in a State of Emergency right now.

I'm not going to have yet another Islamic apologetics discussion with someone who couldn't quote a Quran verse if his life depended on it. You're literally just spitting out slogans that have nothing to do with thh conversation anyway. Who said anything about banning anything? Take a seat bud.

{ German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she is "deeply shaken by the news and pictures that are reaching us from Paris". The German leader issued a statement saying her thoughts were with the victims "of the apparent terrorist attack". }

I am genuinely surprised she has the balls to say anything at all this soon, she's real goddamn lucky it isn't Berlin.

UN General Ban Ki-Moon has demanded the release of all hostages.

Thanks for your contribution, UN, you can go back to being irrelevant and useless now.

I’m not going to have yet another Islamic smear campaign discussion with someone who couldn’t quote a Quran verse if it is not cherry picked or distorted by Paul Joseph Watson if there life depended on it. Someone can't practice there own mental gymnastics either.

Hollande is just saying on the TV channel "France 24" that he decided to close the borders (make me wonder for how many time they'll stay closed, my sister is actually in New York for his birthday).

The last death toll I hear about was of more of 40. And now, it's nothing less than the army who's called in backup to the common and uncommon polices forces in Paris.

Lisa, I take back what I said the other day about pulling out of the middle east.
This is absolutely terrifying. It seems ISIS is at least partially responsible – I didn't think ISIS had this kind of power. First the plane bombing, now this…
"There's no indication of threats [to the United States]" That's not reassuring. If there was an indication of terrorist attacks on Paris I'd think they would have done something.

stop it. we are not blaming all muslims and this discussion will only lead to a flame war

It's harder for them to get to the US geographically, though the FBI's most recent transparency report says there are roughly 1,000 current probes into individuals connected to ISIS in the US atm.

There were indications of the Russian plane bomb too! Their indications are useless because they don't take them seriously. They recorded conversations about that plane plot DAYS before it happened, they discovered when they went back through records. It's fine though, ISIS the JV squad is contained according to Obama this morning, even if they talk about blowing up planes it's not like they can seriously do anything, no need to worry.

Russia is the country that needs to worry next, but you know Putin wont because dramatically increasing security without evidence would scare the Russian people and make him look weak.

Hearing heavy gunfire/seeing stun grenades go off in the theater.
Don't know if they're clearing rooms or what.

They had security but they never had border control. Where was security increased primarily? In airports, taking nudie x-rays and frisking grandmas and children. Most of Europe hardly even acknowledged it had borders before the migrant crisis started, and on top of that they were letting anybody fly freely into Jordan/Iraq/etc then back into Europe without being screened or checked out or anything. Like they were taking a nice summer vacay to the Middle East for a month or six. Hopefully the attitude now changes.

After Charlie Hebdo France was already in a state of preparedness (blunt translation) and gave security a big boost, yet here we had it happening again.

Making the big question: How?

Last edited Nov 13, 2015 at 07:42PM EST

First of all, my thoughts go to all Parisians and I hope everyone stays safe there

Now, a number of things that will definitely result from this:

1. Muslims will start being attacked by Islamaphobes en masse, I feel like this could be breaking point for a lot of people who feel alienated by Islam.

2. David Cameron will immediately go full police state on Britain (since London seems like the next target of ISIS) which means more surveillance nonsense and a massive crackdown on communcations in genera. We'll be at Critical Terror Level till the end of the year.

3. Western nations begin plans for a ground assault on ISIS (Speeches will go like: 'ISIS is a threat to our very lives and all other options for solving this crisis are exausted' etc…)

This is easily the worst terror attack in recent memory in europe. The after effects of this are going to be massive.

I don't think people are going to jump straight into open murder. We'll probably see a SHIT TON of protests and "demonstrations" across Europe over the weekend though, especially in Germany. There have already been tens of thousands of people attending those rallies, and hundreds of arson attacks on buildings that were meant to be used for migrants.

This might have profound effect on the campaigns here, too.
Trump is gonna rally hard as fuck under this banner, we all know that.
I wonder if it will come up in the Dem debate tomorrow.

Latest death count 158.

Latest death count 158.

They should be protesting the Billionaires lobbying these policies for cheap labor.

{ Police believe that the six attacks in central Paris may have been carried out by the three gunmen killed at the Bataclan, but not the stadium attack. }

How did six different attacks take place at almost the same time by three guys?? Either way they don't sound like they think it's over at all, why are all these people standing on the street gawking?!

They're reporting five attackers now, all dead.

Last edited Nov 13, 2015 at 08:26PM EST

Here's Sky News again, talking to someone who was in the stadium atm. They're starting to replay old stuff though, waiting for more news to come in.

Last edited Nov 13, 2015 at 08:36PM EST

"For the press, the assailants underperformed as several of their attacks failed. The overall result is big, but it could have been far worst (especially at le Stade de France)."
Wait, wait, this was underperforming? That's actually even more terrifying.
CNN says 153 killed.

Last edited Nov 13, 2015 at 08:36PM EST

They only killed three people at the stadium… Hollande was in there.
We could be talking about 1,000+ deaths. They might have been expecting it to be.
Can you imagine if they're discussing it right now as a failure that didn't go as planned.

I got a hold of my friend. She is fine as is her family, though atm they are stuck a restaurant.

@lisa

thats a terrifying thought

Last edited Nov 13, 2015 at 08:42PM EST

Well despite how terrible this was, I for one am freaking glad that it wasn't as bad as it could be. 153 is a big number, but 1000+? I don't have the words to describe it.
Glad to hear about your friend. I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to have friends and family in Paris right now.

>Terrorists attacks are almost always Muslim extremists
>terrorist attack happens
>people assume it's by Muslim extremists
>"stop! that's racist"
>it actually was Muslim extremists, because no shit who else would it be
>"stop blaming 1.5 billion people you racists!"

Literally no one here is blaming every Muslim, everyone knows its a few thousand nutjobs who do this. Or they blame the ideology of Islam, which to be fair is true to at least some extent because some sects refuse to adapt to the modern world.

BNO news confirming that the border isn't being locked down, but controlled much more tightly.
As expected, some ISIS supporters already seem to be celebrating on Twitter.
"Préfet de police : all the known assailants have been neutralised."

Just France. Declared by the President, so it would be just France. It wouldn't be surprising though if the surrounding countries raised their securities also either though. Even some cities in the U.S., most prominently New York, have raised security levels.
World Trade Center is lit up Blue, White, and Red, in solidarity for the people of France. People work fast.
Reuters uploaded a map of what happened (by some accounts, things are still a bit disorderly)

Can confirm Lisa's account of Obama's speech, it's not exactly inspiring.

French President Hollande : "We are going to lead a war which will be pitiless. Because when terrorists are capable of comitting such atrocities, they must be certain that they are facing a determined France, a united France, a France that is together, and does not let itself be moved, even if today we express infinite sorrow."

{ How the Bataclan siege ended

Four men who attacked the Bataclan theatre were themselves killed when police stormed the building, including three who activated explosives belts, several sources said.

"Three of them blew themselves up and a fourth, who was also wearing a belt, was hit by police fire and blew up as he fell," one source said. }

Who would ally with ISIS at this point?

Bunch of angry Middle Easterners and a bunch of die-hard ISIS supporters will still support them. Sh!t like this is good for no one.

its impossible ISIS (or any extremist group) can trigger a world war, if they are smart enough they would know this, its clear they have other objectives.

Nothing that large would be possible solely by a terrorist group like ISIS. Plus, there is no 100% proof of ISIS doing this: it's possible they're just taking credit.

This shit is beyond fucked up. Reading through the livestream on reddit made me feel sick to the point where I had to lie down for a while. It's just horrifying to know that these are normal people with normal lives.
Hoping for the best, and that the attacks won't continue elsewhere in the world, as rumors have stated.
