Have you ever wondered how racist your dildo is?

Well California is here to help!

“Little White Lies: Race, Dildos, and American Culture” by Allison Kavanagh Alavi.

{ What she found is a clearly racist discourse that presents black penises and in turn black men’s sexuality as dangerous and even sinful compared to white dildos that were portrayed as sensual and erotic.

She explains the media's portrayal of black men as as uncontrollable and dangerous, and institutional racism, contribute to the differences in marketing between white dildos and black dildos.

"There is a clear difference in the marketing of white and black dildos, the most dramatic examples include black dildos described as ‘massive’ and as a ‘vibrating devil dong’ while the white dildos are described as having an ‘exciting shape’ and as made ‘to please’."

The dildos themselves were also racist, according to Alavi, who noted the darker devices were on average nearly 1.25 inches longer than lighter dildos, and were more apt to include more graphic detail like veins, pubic hairs and scrotums. }

oh, I found a review:

{ Alavi’s study of dildos is a stellar example of how sex is socially constructed. Social construction is an idea that appears to be natural, normal and obvious to those who accept it but is actually an invention or artifact of a particular culture or society. What is happening in this instance is that a stereotype based upon a part of black men’s anatomy is being used to socially construct a negative and general idea about quite a large group of people. }

KYM, this is a very serious problem we need to address as a group of adults.

Why can't white dildos be massive?
Are black dildos not made 'not to please'?
Whose sexuality is on sale here?

Out of all the racial issues out in the world, we turn to the sex industry and its toys. Because nothing spells issues and racial tension as a, and a quote, "‘vibrating devil dong". Seriously, if you have any issues with a dildo and how it's portrayed, I'm pretty sure you can make a custom made one. They'll gladly take your money to make a "racial appropriate" dildo.

Might as well say the car companies are racist because there are more black cars than white.

Considering dildos come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors, I don't see how you can really compare them…

{ I don’t see how you can really compare them… }

By their advertising obviously. Advertising a black dildo as massive reenforces the negative stereotype that black guys only have big dicks so they can rape more effectively. Obviously. What else could it mean? That the plastic dick is big? You're too privileged to see the systematic racism inherent in these dildos.

Well I WANTED us to discuss and analyze microaggressions in the sex toy industry, like asking an Asian dildo where specifically it comes from, but now I see RR is the forum for these types of intellectual sexual debates.

no thanks.

Quality platinium-cured silicone.

Don't ask me how I know. Wikipedia told me, and let's keep it as that.

Hey, I'm not hating on them, they are totally worth the price, but $50 to $150 is out of my price range.

It is with that attitude.

They have smaller ones in the 30-50 dollar price range.

Ironically, the smallest/cheapest ones are a plain black or gray color.

Maybe the person in OP should have checked out Bad Dragon first.

@RandomMan
Fine, I just got a new job this week. I just might spend my first paycheck on Bad Dragon then.

Good looking out for the bros who want dragon dick in their ass on a budget.

{ To whoever might be triggered or thinks this an actual issue. }

Turns out this is a presentation (originated at SanFran State U) used in ethnic/gender/sexuality coursework at liberal arts colleges across the US. Some of the professors who included it in their courses responded to media questions about what purpose it serves.

{ De Anza College Professor Randy Claros told the site he also uses Alavi’s dildo analysis for his classes at the community college after coming across the article while taking a human sexuality course at San Francisco State University. Claros’ human sexuality class syllabus encourages students to visit a sex shop to analyze the dildos for themselves. Portland State University Professor Matthew Geraths told The College Fix he also uses Alavi’s work to “teach students how to do a discourse analysis in my sexualities class; students use the article to go out and make their own observations of sex shops.” }

Can you imagine being a sex shop clerk who just wants to get paid at the end of the month who has to deal with sexuality majors coming in to analyze the racism inherent in their dildos?

Your parents will be proud.

Nothing gets a community together like quality merchandise.

You know, since everyone in here is apparently into dildos, doesn't "vibrating devil dong" sound like it's describing something you'd be more inclined to buy than just an "exciting shape"? I think we really need to ask ourselves here why the white dildos are so damn vanilla. No veins/balls/etc? A more graphic/realistic dildo is supposed to be the negative option?

I think we need to sponsor a KYM counter-study. For science.

I agree, even the website that sells Dragon Dicks has a human toy and it is plain as white bread.

We need more exciting dick toys! The more Exotic and anatomically correct the better!

You know… if there's one thing I can give these un-self-aware chucklefucks, it's their incredible creativity. You could have offered me a hundred thousand dollars and I don't think I would have managed to come up with something as hilariously pointless and pointlessly hilarious to academically bitch about as the trends of race in dildos. The closest I've come to is gathering data on the distances between the meat and produce sections of grocery stores to prove that the stereotype of black people as fried-chicken eating, watermelon-chomping negros is still alive and well. But… I dunno, it doesn't quite pack that facepalm-worthy punch.

To whoever might be triggered or thinks this an actual issue. They're dildos, use them what they're designed for and go fuck yourself.
