Anybody else here heard of File Pile?

It sounds like endoftheinter.net which sounds like LUElinks, which sounds like a whole lot of hype and no solid facts.

If a community wants to try to keep themselves exclusive, why try to stop them?

On that same note, if a community shrouds themselves in secrecy, doesn't that also limit their spread of influence?

Yes It was real, I however was never a member (had member friends)
I do believe that most of the sites tactics involved the Mystery of the site and Inside jokes.
