8chan Hacked and Brought Down

I'm no expert, but I'll give my two cents anyway if it'll help:

From what I've gathered, I think your entry may have been deadpooled due to it not being constructed and formatted to site standards. You might want to familiarize yourself with the Style Guide if you have not done so already.

Also, considering that we already have an entry on 8chan, the hacking event might be better classified as a sub-section of the main entry rather than a standalone or sub-entry.

Thanks for teaching me to not contribute KYM.

Friend, your entry is less then a paragraph long with 2 paraphrased sentences and no citations. It got moved to the larger 8chan entry, but please reread the entry guidelines before working on another entry.

So not only did what I made get deadpooled, but now someone else gets credit for it in a different entry?

I really don't want to make another entry here now.

Huh… I got deadpooled for documenting an actual event on the Internet.

Deadpooling means (as is stated in the Deadpool header):

  • This entry has been rejected due to incompleteness or lack of notability.

Improve the article and the decision will probably be reversed. As already stated by both A-train:

and LHN:

The entry needs a lot of work. There's a reason why the New Entry Page has a list of guidelines, including links to Rules and Guidelines and The Style Guide. If you don't follow them, then it will more likely than not be Deadpooled. It's not complicated.

How exactly are they "getting credit for it?" The 8chan entry was going to be updated with this information within it's own entry whether a specific entry about this event was made or not. The only thing that will change in the main 8chan entry if you improve the specific event's entry will be a link from the parent article to that one.

Please actually read and follow the article guidelines. It will make everyone's life much easier if you actually follow the specific instructions on how to do this. Don't get mad at everyone else because you chose not to follow them.

That's hardly a threat.

Topic was posted in general, so feel free to continue talking about the event itself.

Please stop talking down to me in the threads I create.

so far i've been seeing people giving you counter arguements and explanations for your claims and actions, but hardly any one really talking you down.

a sterner tone than usual, sure, but so far you've built up a reputation of being real tenacious when people give a stronger argument than yours.

reckon you might want to learn from what everyones been telling you so far and save that knowledge for a real slamminous jamminous article you can write next time, when you get the hang of it

I hardly know anything about 8chan; is there any reason why a hacker would have beef with it or be interested in taking it down?

Or was it just one of those "for the lulz" type of hacks?

Basically 8chan gained lotsa members (after it formed in 2013) after a mass exodus of 4chan when the administration added new mods/janitors to be more stringent on the 2014 hit controversy GamerGate. More info on it here, but it looks like more info is gonna get posted soon in regards to this new hacking event.

Yeah, I'm going with 'for teh lulz' that is just more prolonged than April Fools where on April 2nd, 8channers are like "hahaha good joke anon, you really got us there! hahaha….uhh…anon? Hello?" I don't think there's any agenda or malicious motivation behind it. It could just be 4chan being like "HAH, TAKE THAT 8CHAN, BET YOU WANT TO BE WITH US AGAIN, DON'T YA?" while stroking a framed 2013 picture of 4chan labeled "the good ol' days".

If you still wish to continue or conclude a discussion in relation to this, you are free to approach me on my wall or by PM; keep this thread about the topic.

Based on what Hotwheels said, he apparently knows the hows and whys of the hack; suprised it's taking so long to go back up.

The larger boards seem to be back up and mostly working, though some of the smaller boards are still kill. Hotwheels hasn't been involved for quite a while as far as I know; it's Codemonkey now.
