is it okay to like both mediums?

cause it seems like folks insist you must pick a side for some reason because god forbid you actually like both anime…and CARTOONS?!

okay maybe am using too much hyperbole but it's fucking rare as hell to find somebody who isn't bias towards either medium.

I mean I know a lot of people who like both, but most of those people aren't out there in those arguments about how one is better than the other. Those people are also going to generally stay away from places that have a large amount of these discussions.

I'm personally a biased against many aspects that are frequent in both (found often in one but nearly non existent in the other), but there are certainly plenty of examples of shows that do not have these issues I do like. On both sides I find I'm generally drawn towards either mature (as in, not aimed at very young audiences) semi-serious animations that deal with interesting concepts or worlds I like, or animation that is humor based that I find visually appealing. Sexual fanserive (especially where cultural differences surrounding age exist) and gross out humor I generally have a difficult time tolerating, even if I enjoy everything else about it.

I don't really know where you're getting that impression from. From what I've seen on KYM at the very least, quite a lot of people openly watch both, and people who try to proclaim that one of the two is superior or outright insult one of them are called out. There are users on this site who are, in fact, infamous for this very behaviour, though I will not name any of them.

I've seen little to nothing that would suggest what you speak of is coming from the majority of users here, unless you are speaking of the internet as a whole rather than KYM?

If it helps at all, I enjoy both mediums, so if you enjoy them both then you're not alone.

I don't mean to get off subject here, but who cares what other people think?

Just like something and like it, and if somebody doesn't like that you like something ignore or block them.

Yeah, I don't see why not. I like both.

There generally isn't one singular element I'm looking for when it comes to entertainment, but typically a combination of different elements.

Because of this, I'm able to find enjoyment in all kinds of media from all kinds of different genres, not just animated media.

I mean, "bias" and "preference" can easily be mistaken as one and the same in this situation. I like both, but I prefer cartoons as of late. I might like anime better tomorrow. None of this is set in stone, really.

Watch whatever you like, personal enjoyment is subjective.

The existence of a binary is ridiculous, as if to suggest the existence of only two animation styles in the world. Not even suggesting that the U$ exports a good bit of animation from Canada or Europe, or that both the East and West have animation studios in southeast Asia that do animation for them.

I don't see why anyone would care. Doesn't seem like it would be a real enough scenario where either side would lampoon the other on the regular, besides those super autismos who actually care about others' tastes.
