I was clicking edit to fix one of its tags when its upvote count dropped from like 26 to 4. Is this normal? I even got emails confirming that it received its 25th upvote just now…

yea we've been having issues with likebotting/sockpuppeting for a fair bit, especially on political entries. Problem is we do not have the means to see who upvoted/downvoted on images and/or comments, so we cannot really get to the bottom of this at the moment

Actually it was pretty suspicious that this image suddenly got an influx of likes yet no comments and faves

I have thought several times you need to link the functions to initial activity: mandate a post miniumum in forum or comment before allowing voting.

Anyone dumb enough to try to automate the process should be easy to spot in a gauntlet run of achieving minimum activity and it would add an extra layer of effort in setting up bots.

Sure you wont dissuade the determined sock puppeter who will manually post for each account but it will dissuade the casual botters and making setting up a large significant number of accounts prohibitively time consuming.
