So some of you might remember that last year, we started an annual awards event to recognize and celebrate the best (and the worst) of music and dance videos on the Internet. Well, it's that time of the year again and I figured this would be a good time to survey your thoughts on musicians that we haven't covered yet, but should be profiled as #person entries and nominated for this year's awards. List away!

UPDATE (2/5): Here's an outline of this year's award categories & nominations. Got suggestions for new categories or nominees? Don't be afraid to get creative as long as it pertains to music and dance.

  • Artist of the Year: The Internet equivalent of Best New Artist; must be from the internet
  • Everywhere of the Year: The biggest hit of the year, esp in terms of play stats & derivatives
  • DJ of the Year: Best musical remix or mash-up artist; must be from the internet
  • Exploitable Artist of the Year: The biggest butt of the joke, got made fun of the most
  • The Remix of the Year: The best mashup or remix song of the year
  • Cover Song of the Year: The best cover rendition of pop music
  • Flash Mob Dance of the Year: like it says
  • Live Show FAIL of the Year: The best video live performance gone wry

Thrift Shop by Mackelmore should be nominated. Gangam Style should be given best dance while Gotye should be named the Best Pop Artist.

So, wait, is this any meme-referencing music from 2012, or just viral songs like Gangnam Style or Call Me Maybe? If it's the latter, that doesn't leave much room for choice…

My Chemical Romance. Oh, that's right, this isn't Tumblr.

I'd have to say (for Internet terms, not my actual favorite artist) Carly Rae Jepsen. TOO FAMOUS!
