Okay, I've seen this meme used on one of the forums I frequent, and have started using it for practically everything myself through osmosis, but I have no idea where this one actually came from and it's driving me nuts. Can anyone shed some light on it?

You know if there's any particular rationale behind it, or was it just something somebody thought would be kinda funny?
I don't know of the rationale behind it, but I would guess it was just something to be taken at face value. In style, it's abrupt and absurd; similar to the old Monty Python segue, "And now for something completely different."
Google Insights For Search term:
suddenly "thousands of them"

The search trend stems from mid-2008. Although, Google Search trends can only be used to infer when people on the web became intersted and wanted more; and not when the actual origin ocurred.
I've found a "Suddenly, Spengbabs! Thousands of them!" video from April 2007.

And for some reason, there's this Creepy Chan video entitled "Suddenly.. Tributes, Thousands Of Them!"
I don't know yet if there's more behind where this phrase comes from, but it's very 4channy

Suddenly, clone posts. Thousands of them.
For some reason it seems easy to think of Johnny Depp in fear and loathing in las vegas saying something like this… suddenly, bats! thousands of them!
I don't know though, would Hunter S. Thompson really be the source of an internet meme? He was so clean cut and lacked a sense of humour, so I doubt it.
