Hey it's that time of the year again. When we make spoopy festivities way before time, and we ink.

Google trends
Increasingly bigger spikes each year since 2013. Google gives the data week-per-week, the bigger points are at the first week of October, then makes a sharp decline. If i were to guess, people abandon the project quickly, like New Year's resolutions. Also, notice a tiny spike in 2 Oct ~ 8 Oct 2011.

Origin . A personal challenge by Jake Parker, born on 2009 (the challenge, not the person), then spread.

I'm missing the "spread" part, what caused that huge growth in 2013 and subsequent years.

Searching on reddit by 'most popular' , all results are from the last year.

FB page with 69k likes . 12,1k followers on Twitter

Wikipedia mentions over 100000 tweets in Oct 2014, but doesn't give a citation. A mention in Washinton Post from Oct 5 2015
