I'm noticing an increase in people calling all wacky things that happen exclusive to "this timeline", a la the multiverse theory.

Any idea what caused this influx and if it's something we can document? The source could be anything, and Google mostly gives me this scene from Community.

I'd say the whole Mandela Effect and/or the Berenstein/Berenstain debate kicked it off with a lot of help from the Cinemassacre Halloween special about the very subject. Around the time the video was released was when it really exploded in popularity from my observation.

Nice find, wouldn't have looked in that direction myself. I thought it would be from either The Flash (he fucks up timelines for breakfast), or Jojo (since everything is a damn reference).

Do you also include Darkest Timeline memes in there? Those are a tad older and might have inspired by Community.

I noticed a few references to alternate timelines related to the 2016 presidential election. We live in a world where the guy from the Apprentice won, so the jokes practically write themselves.

Here's something.

Both sides are using the phrase (the counter example being "This is the best timeline/We live in the best timeline"), which I think is a good indication it's got some spread.
