"Ernie Gang" is a loose memetic coalition of people identifying as Ernie from Sesame Street and "raiding" various places online, taking them as "property". It was started on November 29th by YouTube gamer Alpharad in a "Funny Moments" video of the game VRChat in which he and friends all walk around as the character and pester people as "Ernie Gang".

The joke soon spread to other YouTube comment sections and elsewhere. It got so bad on Discord that Alpharad had to make the following message.

In addition, remix videos appeared, such as this parody of Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang" by WindyAura…

…and this Synthesia video by NPT Music, which is really just another "Gucci Gang" cover, but includes "Ernie Gang" in the title and Ernie in the thumbnail.

Bro, this is an inside joke among a small youtube community. Please cut it out with trying to make a 'meme' research after every little inside joke you see. Not every one of these jokes are classified as a 'meme'. I'm tired of seeing every little internet joke and everyone treating it like a 'meme'.

I'm not trying to make this a meme myself; I saw others treating it like one. I normally write these forum posts for things I think might warrant an entry (hence why I don't write them in entries to start with, plus I don't usually have enough information I think is needed for entries). These are just to test the waters and invite the people who do write entries to do so if they feel inclined (and do more research if need be). I actually think this meme is dead in the water at this point already, so it probably doesn't need an entry, but I didn't know that would be the case 2 days ago.

This site's purpose is to document memes, not designate and approve "official" memes, let alone spread them. There are lots of things people consider memes that aren't on here, like how some words may not be in a given dictionary. The line is blurry and subjective between inside jokes and memes, but at a certain popularity level, they should be recorded here either way. It didn't reach it for Ernie Gang, but this was a preparatory post in case it did.

Just ran into one of these hilarious lads in a comment section today. Literally commented begging for likes for no reason.
