I have been seeing these two phrases very often on 4chan lately, and it all started some months ago, it has even an entry on this website but no research or information.
Is it ironic? Is it to mock Reddit's upvote system or what? What do you think?

Ah yes, I've come across these phrases before. It may be ironic in certain circumstances but I've seen it used in sincerity almost as much as mocking a form of voting system. Of course the redpilled and bluepilled has been abused as a form of discrediting a political opinion (and now just opinions in general).
“Based and redpilled” means cool or good, and “cringe and bluepilled” means lame or bad.
Bluepilled and redpilled originate from The Matrix. In the movie, if you take the blue pill, you forget reality and accept the comforts of a corrupt and false world, while taking the red pill means you reject that world and understand the reality of the situation.
Being "redpilled" means you've come to accept some reality that differs from the mainstream interpretation, but is the factual and correct one. This can range from more serious issues ("there are only two genders") to more shitposty/comedic ones ("The Room is a cinematic masterpiece"). Whereas "bluepilled" is the opposite--you failed to understand the true reality of things and are stuck believing a false idea.
Not sure as to the origins of based.
Redpill and Bluepill are just another way of saying "My personal opinion is objective fact and what you think is objectively wrong"
I see it a lot when browsing /v/, usually its ironic or purposefully idiotic. Another common thing to mock ones opinion is "Based retard"
