Should there be a page regarding a recent policy change from Sony that now causes fan service-y content to be altered in the PS4 versions of games?

This has been something of a hot topic lately, it looks like Sony (more so the Western branches, but it's affecting some Japanese releases too) seems to have a new policy in place that is oddly similar to a guideline Nintendo of America once had back in the late 80s and early 90s. Namely fanservice content of the sexual variety is either being heavily altered in the PS4 releases of games, or games that are very heavy in said content are being outright denied Western releases by Sony in the West. For example Sony America and Europe has recently blocked a planned Western release of a fanservice heavy dungeon crawler called Omega Labyrinth Z , a visual novel called NORA TO OUJO TO NORANEKO HEART HD has had some scenes altered for it's PS4 release while the PC and Switch ports remain unaltered , Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newel has been delayed on PS4 in the West after Sony requested the intimacy mode be removed from that version (the PC release is unaltered though), and most recently the PS4 version of Warriors Orochi 4 has had boob jiggle removed which also affects the Xbox One and PC releases due to those being based on the PS4 version, but interestingly the Switch port has boob jiggle intact.

This has been happening quite a bit lately and has of course lead to a decent outcry from some online communities so I feel it might be something that's worth making a page for (especially given we made similar articles for the controversies surrounding things like "Vagina Bones" being altered in the Western release of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Fire Emblem Fates toning down the "skinship" mode in the non-Japanese releases), but I'd like to see first if others think it's worth making said page.

I still love the console but this shit what Sony is doing is pretty fucking stupid and weird. There's still other games that have the same mode and then you also have games there like Gal Gun 1 and second one was released months ago. Why is all kinds of censoring suddenly happening just now? Been also hearing that sites like Gab and Discord are starting to censor anything that's related to loli.

I'm not really sure about Discord, don't use it but i remember seeing some people on Twitter saying that anything related to loli stuff will get you banned. Heard all of this mostly from Count Dankula's Twitter where he pissed off a lot people for saying that all loli is pedo shit and all that.

Didn't he followed Shadman in Twitter?

Yeah it seems so. A lot of people are pointing it out that he follows Shad and there was also people saying that Dankula has put some loli stuff on his video's and thumbnails but i guess he just uses it "as the butt of jokes."

I still don’t get why company like Sony doing this? I know there are very few vocal minority whing against any form of sexual content even the softcore one but why. Are Sony trying to to appeal to those people who literally have no interest to buy those kind of games to begin with? What’s the gain?

…wait, he is ok with joking about the real deaths of millions of innocent people, but stylized artwork triggers him? Those some weird priorities.

I just don't understand the logic people have that simulated murder = ok but simulated rape = wrong. What is the logic to think one is ok but the other isn't?

I guess people think it's supporting real child exploitation or something. I never quite understood all of this. You have all these games and movies where all kinds of shit is happening and all of it's fine but as soon as it's drawings, then it's wrong. I myself am not into loli shit or anything, i'm more into that other kind of shit, probably isn't hard to guess but i still don't agree that it should be censored. If people can't tell difference between fiction and real life, then that's their problem. Japan keeps making that stuff shit tons and still, crime rate in that country is really low. Meanwhile some other countries has it much higher even though loli is banned in them.

Sorry if this was derailing this thread a bit. Felt like talking about it here rather than starting a new thread.

The irony of Sony censoring content while Nintendo is lenient.

Imagine if Sony managed to make most third party developers especially Atlus and Square Enix go Nintendo exclusive or even Microsoft exclusive like say, Persona on Xbox and Switch.

Remember when Sony was getting lots of developers to make games on the PS1 because they disliked Hiroshi Yamauchi's (Nintendo CEO at the time in the 90's) policies?

Remember when Sony touted itself as a mature games system?
Can't wait for many developers to flock to the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch's successors.

I really hope the Pay to Win market has a giant crash too.

I have seen this story being passed around on the different gaming news websites that I frequent, so I would say that it is atleast notable enough to keep track of.

But yeah, what is Sony thinking with this one? They caught a lot of flack with their cross platform policies that you would think they would have learned not to spite their fans.

Even more damning is that they are enforcing this policy right as Steam and Nintendo are becoming more lax. If they end up chasing away some of their Japanese developers it could really bite them in the ass.

Seems like people are still trying to use freedom of speech as a scapegoat when it comes to controversial content. Just because you can say and do something doesn't mean you should. You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre unless it's actually on fire.

Personally, while I'm so obviously biased against overly, pointlessly sexualized content, I do think that Sony is still kind of in the wrong here not because of how it's "censorship" is being handled, but because they seem to be slowly taking a non-discriminatory approach when it comes to the content, at least as of late. The reverse-Steam, if you will. The blatantly lewd games that have already been released are still safe for the time being, since they've passed the gate until they get checked on again.

On the topic of lolis, it all depends on context. Obviously don't go around sharing "art" of literally underaged girls participating in any sex acts, especially in a prominent store platform like Sony. For Discord however, unless you're doing it in private (or better yet not at all), Discord should have no means of policing servers and the like for the content itself. People are just disgusting sometimes.

When it comes to the games OP talked about that were under fire, I'll just give a line or two for each one.
Omega Labyrinth Z – Seems like a thing regarding policies in the US and EU, which is more or less about the political stance on how those countries see the content.
NORA TO OUJO TO NORANEKO HEART HD – That's just a bad censorship job, Sony. C'mon, you can do better than that. Either way, standard ecchi visual novel stuff it seems. Unless there's actual sex involved (implied or explicit), it should be fine.
Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal – Looks like the Awakening controversy all over again. I'll say this, how come there's a significantly lack of people complaining about the Switch version as well? It's obviously not just a Sony issue for this one.
Warriors Orochi 4 – Boob jiggle is dumb, but it's not so dumb that it should be removed from the game entirely. Plus, boobs do have physics. They're not glass domes strapped to your chest, but at the same time they shouldn't be so exaggerated to the point where it would behave like slapping a water balloon.

Finally, when it comes to having a page on KYM, why the hell not. This place loves to defend their waifus and we aaaaaaaaaaaaaalways need another titty gallery, amirite?

Still, it's good to hear that Sony, despite still being under hot water for crossplay and presenting shit like "Life of Black Tiger" and "Horse Racing 2016" on their platform, is still one hell of a better curator than Steam. While people claim Nintendo to be "lenient" right now, the Nintendo Switch library is still pretty small to make any judgments on that.

"This place loves to defend their waifus and we aaaaaaaaaaaaaalways need another titty gallery, amirite?"

You mean how, when it was confirmed that Samus and Snake got their asses flattened, people's main focus was totally about Samus and not Snake at all..? Or how people were totally OK with DC censoring Batman's penis in a comic strip..? Yep, KYM obviously only cares about these because everyone is horny except you, what other explanation could there possibly be.

Honestly, I hope a fourth company enters the console race and starts kicking the shit out of the other three to wake them up.

It's time to come home, Sega.

This is honestly unexpected and so suddenly when I heard of it.
I thought they're taking a step forward when they bring crossplay…only to have three steps backwards from this piece of shit so-called policy

As a PS4 owner this obviously worries me as well, becuase now they are just targeting small niche games with niche fanbases which i personally don't care about but it could extend to major stuff in the future if not kept in check.

As for why it should be featured on this website, i don't think it that there should be an article for now, unless the number of people being enraged by this grows and becomes more vocal, which now is not happening.

But yeah, the way the censorship is done is really really bad, with those sun rays blocking everything from sight badly shopped all over the place.
