Does she have any personal flaws? In order to make them relate-able, characters need flaws. It makes them mortal in a sense. For example, Grace is obviously taller than most ponies. Sometimes height can shift your center of gravity. Maybe as a filly, she was teased in dance school for her height and her subsequent clutzy-ness.

You can use what I just said. Just be sure to expand upon it and to add your own personal touch. Despite what the more posh say, you can take someone's idea and make it your own if you tweak it enough and make it different.

By "the more posh" do you mean me? Cuz I agree with you, there's no such thing as a totally original character concept. If you take a tried and true formula and use it as a basis for your character they'll be more relatable. Just so long as you put your own creative spin on it or flesh out the character enough, the result will still be creative and interesting.
