On a sidenote, I don’t understand why people include Marco as a member of the group, he appears a grand total of once and doesn’t play much of a role in the story. As a matter of fact, Jean sort of disapears too (Nothing spoilerish, they just sort of go).

I don't know if you're talking about the manga but I'm gonna respond as if you're talking about the anime. Well, Marco was sort of Jean's moral support in episode 8, and I can't say that many people in the group have done more than he has (which is to say, not very much). Then again, you called Armin useless even though he's the brains of the group that comes up with the master plans so I guess your definition of useless and mine are totally different.

In the manga. Quite a few of them play a significant role in the story, Christa, Ymir, Annie, Reiner, Connie (although to a lesser point) and Bertholdt being the main ones (Obviously there's are three main characters as well as Rivaille and Zoe, and I'll retract my erlier statement of Armin because of one of his discoveries). Even the others like Sasha and (sometimes) Jean. Including moral support for Jean, Marco does two things (and I'm stretching the bounds a tad there). But even with that, in the anime, he showed up once then disappeared, and unlike the other characters in the group, hasn't showed up during the Battle for Trost, which is why I asked why people act as though he is an important character.

So, episode 14 is goinng to be a pointless filler recap episode. I don't know why the anime needs something like that, it's not even finished it's first arc so far, and the manga has nearly finished it's third. It's pacing makes Bleach seem fast. The anime is only 26 episodes long, why so slow?

It seems like they're trying to buy a bit of time so they can continue making new episodes without worry of catching up too fast to the manga and running out of source material. This happened recently with Gin Tama, and now they're waiting a full six months to release the next episodes of it, or at least I think…

"One of the two main reasons that we see filler are to buy time if the anime catches up with the source material, and would otherwise need to wait for the manga/game/novels to get further ahead. After all, you can't really adapt something to an anime if it hasn't been made yet.

The other reason for fillers are to simply milk an anime for more money. If a company makes 3 or 4 episodes of filler in a season, a fan may have to purchase 6 DVDs for that entire season instead of 5. Thus the studio sees an increase in profits."

I'm pretty sure the former is the reason for this, if it is true, then it seems they're planning a second season. Given its boom in popularity because of the anime, this seems likely, so they don't want to run out of source material quickly. So, I guess they're taking preemptive measures against that.

Or they're greedy basterds, idk.

"On that day ballers received a grim reminder… we lived in fear of the refs and were disgraced to live in these cages we called the locker rooms."
They are the Balls, and we are the Slammers!

Episode 10 is out. So, this means that the first arc is near enough over. About time too, not because of pacing (I'll spare you another one of my rants), but because the second arc is where the show really starts.

I still want to know what is in that god forsaken basement!
Who knows what lies inside.

  • Could it lead to Eren unlocking more of his abilities?!
  • Could it be valuable research that his father did (assuming he did any on titan's anatomy at the least) for the past years?!
  • Could it be an ancient family secret?!

    Could it be porn!?!

My boyfriend and I have just settled on assuming it's a giant platypus that's been hiding in the basement this whole time.

Yeah, after todays episode I'm really starting to feel like the pacing is way too slow. Two fucking episodes to stop a mexican standoff? That's way too long. Don't get me wrong, awesome show, just wish it wouldn't dwell so much on everything. Internal monologues are going on all the time and I'm just thinking " bitch, shut the fuck up and do something".
/end rant

Eren kind of annoyed me at first in the Anime, I'm sorry, but I think there are too many pushy "All talk, no do" idealists as protagonists in Anime or any other media. I stopped shortly thereafter. Sorry if this seems like bad judgement, but I watched, read, and listened to a bunch of things in my time, and that type of character is pretty common.

I would have to agree. The show is so good that the episodes go by pretty fast, but then you stop and think "We're three episodes in and they're still fighting the same titan". I thought the first three episodes had good pacing, because they showed us what needed to be shown so that we would know what we need to know about the world, characters, and threat of the titans. But then everything slowed down to about half the pacing speed when the Battle of Trost arc started and everyone had their own monologues every five minutes. The monologues are good, and they are a useful way of expanding a character, but sometimes I think this anime is a huge offender of breaking the "show, don't tell" rule, which is a shame because the show invoked "show, don't tell" very well in the first episodes. An example being the show giving us close ups of the titans in intimidating lights and and showing us just how scared shitless Hannes was when he had to face one for the first time. For and action show, there sure is quite a lack of… action sometimes.

GOD DAMMIT, I NEED MY TESTOSTERONE PUMPING AT ALL TIMES!! I DON'T NEED THIS FEELSY SHIT!

So, on the subject of the new episode, the commander who made the mexican standoff happen to begin with

Yeah, that guy, who the fuck gave that guy a position of power? He basically nearly caused the death of dozens, if not hundreds of soldiers including the top 10 of the newest trainee graduates and then almost killed off one of the most important soldiers they've had in a long time (granted, she did threaten to kill anyone that approached Eren). Pixis even said that he was an incredible coward, and it'd be pretty baffling if any of his superiors that were in a position to promote didn't see that. I think this guy is due for a demotion.

The man has a fantastic voice actor, though.

Moving on, I think this was a really interesting episode. It did suffer from a bit of annoying internal monlogueing from Armin, but then he made up for it with his crowning moment of awesome facing the army and turning the tides with his words. I do like that this show understands that words can hold as much strength as brute force. And I can definitely see what Random means by saying the story really gets going in the second story arc, seeing as we have found probably the most important piece of information yet about the titans, and we now have at least a little bit of an idea of what the hell is in the basement. I am on Eren's side and wondering why the hell his dad kept such important information a secret, but then again, seeing how the army reacted to Eren I think it's safe to say they would have deemed him a traitor and killed him immediately.

Hey, I don't mean to be a noob and all, but is there a place legally to watch the first episodes of AOT with subtitles you know? I want to get into this show right away all thanks to these videos, gifs and fanarts that I've seen.

Is "the devil is a part timer" worth watching?

I've heard it's pretty good. Might start watching it now (it's not like I'll be watching EA's E3 conference, so I have the time to spare).

It's the best comedy series anime out right now. It's a great subversion fantasy anime and the action scenes aren't bad, either. It's different from other SoL comedy anime since it has actual plot to the comedy. I totally recommend it. Also, the cast of characters are some of the funniest I've seen… this year.

Eh, the pacing really isn't bothering me that much. Maybe it's because I don't mind slower shows (Casshern Sins, anyone?) but I suppose it has more to do with fleshing out the characters. I thought this was a great episode for Armin, and seeing his internal struggles was important enough to the story. I'll admit it got a little long-winded, but overall it did not bother me. Slow shows can be good. Taking a deliberate care to give characters long amounts of time on screen can help an audience connect with them, like they've known them for a while.

Don't get me wrong, fast-paced shows rule too. I personally hope that the next episode or maybe the one after that (since next week might be mostly planning and preparing for an assault) is Eren punting titans left and right. The show could use a nice action scene to break up the stalemate.

ALSO MAI WAIFU WAS IN THERE FOR LIKE FIVE SECONDS

…oh Sasha….

You do know your waifu is gay for Eren, riiiiiiiight?

I'd like to see your evidence. It's surprisingly hard to find ErenXArmin art

Also, you do know bisexuals exist, riiiiiiiight?

There is, although surprisingly a lot less than JeArmin.

Point is, most pairings he's in is shonen-ai. Mostly because he is prime uke for yaoi bait.
And of couse I know of bisexual, I mean, MikasaXErenXArmin is a pretty popular OT3.

Foine. I concede, but Sasha is still best waifu. Have some Christa clone for yer troubles.

While on the topic of yaoi bait, I've got a little rant. Why oh why do they call anything remotely gay yaoi when the more proper term is shonen-ai? I mean, my damn, yaoi is a term for straight up porn. Shonen-ai is literally 'boy's love' and is more appropriate. I mean, not every shonen-ai is porn but every yaoi is shonen-ai… unless it's bara. It annoys the shit outta me whenever I browse for shonen ai randomly see a pic labeled yaoi when it's shonen-ai. /rant

You know, I'm not all that into yaoi or shonen-ai, but I think I can dig Ermin

And yes, Vino, I know exactly what you mean by being annoyed by the confusion between yaoi and shonen-ai. I've learned to just live with the fact that most people don't even know the term "shonen-ai" exists, and don't know how to apply it properly

On the subject of shipping, does anyone else adore YmirXChrista like I do?

So, someone asked the manga-ka of AoT, Isayama Hajime, to draw Mikasa in a bikini.
This is the result.

For those that can't read, it says:
“Dancing with sprays of blood: A breathtaking performance”
“Next volume: The intense idol arc starts!”
“And so, humanity’s fate has been entrusted to…”
“…the strongest stage entertainer!”
“I will dazzle every Titan!!”

Name: Mikarin
Height: 170cm
Reach: 173cm
Weight: 68kg
Hobbies: Eren
Special Skill: Slicing meat
Strong Point: Following through with what I’ve decided☆
Weak Point: Slicing up people I don’t like without warning
I’m actually a scatterbrain!☆
Attached to: Recon Corps Idol Unit

>Hobbies: Eren
>Eren
>I’m actually a scatterbrain!☆
>Recon Corps Idol Unit
>Slicing meat

Aside from that innuendo and hilariously offbeat character revelation, Mikasa is confirmed for beefcake.

@Crimson
You fooooool! YMIRXCHRISTA IS THE BEST IN THE WOOOOOORLD!
No seriously, I love this pairing, and the best part is it's canon.

I should stop spamming images… Meh, I regret nothing.

Holy shit…

The soundtrack is amazing.
Favorite tracks so far are Attack on Titan, The Reluctant Heroes, Call your name, Vogel im Kafig, and Omake pfsaddjhgfd.

A new and improved one:
