Just saw it today. The movie was in one word: Unambitious.
Like, it took the safest, and by extension the most unimaginative routes available. While the movie itself was competent, there wasn't any moments that actually made me go 'Holy Shit!' Even TLJ could do that.
And for the record, the revelation of Rey's ancestry was just lame. I may be in the minority here, but I actually really liked how in TLJ Rey's parents were effectively nobodies. Effectively retconning it in this new movie was robbed her of that, especially given that the new explanation just feels like bad fanfic tier for me.
Yeah, if only JJ was in charge if the second movie of the trilogy, maybe the trilogy as a whole would've been better. Maybe. Cause RoS was basically just trying to fix what LJ fucked up.

It basically solidifies the Mary Sue argument into a solid gold status. She has similar origin to Anakin and fulfills the Chosen One prophecy now that Anakin didn't since there was a bunch of ALL THE SITH hiding elsewhere. To call invalidating what Anakin Skywalker did then doing it with some nobody Mary Sue the end to the "Skywalker Saga" is such a disgrace.

I doubt it. I think JJ didn't have any plan beyond his own movie which was basically just 'reset the button; we're the original trilogy all over again.'
If he didn't want to fuck things up, he should have had a plan beyond his own movie instead of just putting some mystery box bullshit in and hoping someone else would answer the questions for him.

From what I've read of the old leaks from about 3 months ago on reddit

Yes. From the most part they really were accurate.
My dad, a massive Star Wars fan, insisted that I watch the movie with him, so I went along. I had pretty low expectations, and I'll admit; the movie was much better than I thought it would be. That isn't to say that TROS is a good movie; it is one of the most horribly paced movies that I've ever seen. Michael Bay's Transformers is less cluttered than this mess. I felt that Abrams was trying to include as many of his ideas for the second movie as he could, adding to TROS's bloat. The worst part is how, more than the other two films, Anakin and Luke's work is completely negated by this movie. Palpatine is back with no explanation, and the final fight between Rey and Palpatine is cringe-worthy.
Overall, I liked it less that TFA and TLJ, but all of those movies are highly subjective.

Big stinky, no likey. Worst part is that I have to hear about it for the next couple years considering we'll be getting Star Wars films until the end of time.
It's a cluttered mess of a film that desperately tries to "fix" the last one in addition to concluding a franchise and a story line they were never building up to begin with because they never had a plan for this trilogy. It's got some great visuals and I enjoyed the performances, and there is fun to be had in several of the film's action setpieces, but they're part of a larger picture that lacks the emotional resonance the originals had, despite pulling so much from them.
It's still not the worst Star Wars film (Attack of the Clones) but it's a desperate, cloying attempt at creating a finale to one of the most influential franchises in cinema that falls flat on its face because it's the third in a trilogy that had minimal if not zero planning for a cohesive story. Like Return of the Jedi, the third film in this trilogy is the worst.

1/10, though hearing James Earl Jones' voice and the scene with ghost Luke lifting the X-wing did bring me joy.
I didn't think they could do it, but they actually made ROTJ's "killing the emperor will make you evil" plotline kind of make sense.
Some scenes kind of dragged though. I feel like they could have improved by cutting a few minutes from some sequences.
