That's because you use adblock. Normally the part right of that white space is covered by ads. If that white space wasn't there, the also trending bar would be abruptly interupted by the ads. Now it just slowly fades.

Also, I just wanted to address this: I really really just hate the fading of the also trending bar, because there is often something I can barely not click on at the end. Is there something we can do to fix that, besides using adblock? I.E. having also trending scroll a bit?

The fading is there BECAUSE you use adblock.

It would look bad if it didn't fade without adblock.

For example:

Here it is normally:

And here it is without the fade away

I think we all can agree the one without the fade away looks much worse.

So yeah, the fade away should stay. We don't have to cater to people who aren't giving us ad-revenue.

Seriously, ad-blockers are great, but please, please turn them off on sites that you visit often (that aren't porn). Sites like KYM run almost solely off of ad revenue, you know. Don't be a prick.

Also, possibly being tangential here, but how exactly does the also trending bar work? Is there a certain amount of views or something?

It's based on comments.

It is possible to hide this white space, you need to configure your AdBlock.
Go to the AdBlock filter preferences, click on "custom filters" tab, then "add filters group", then "add filter" and paste this:
knowyourmeme.com##.r_fade

Which always makes it so ironic when you read comments saying "Why/How is this trending?"

They only got themselves to blame.
