I wouldn’t be too bothered to add some Media Moderators just because it’s such a bare-bones minimum position. Basically the only power you’ll be adding is removing images and moving between entries, not something to give to the masses, but trustable to a few. And let’s face it, the Entry and Forum mods who got Media added later aren’t always the best we could get there. Basically the main reason some of us are suddenly into removing images are because others are doing the work for us.
I back this notion as well. I don't see the harm in bringing in a few extra media mods to help with this cleanup project so long as we choose the right candidates that have the right goals and ambitions to see these galleries fixed.
We're not talking more forum or entry moderators or anything like that. Our current roster of forum and entry mods are handling those areas just fine. We're talking media mods. Which is simply giving image cleanup powers to those most dedicated to image cleanup. I can name several people here who genuinely want to see more accurate, safer and more relevant galleries and have more time to focus on that than I do. If they are willing to take up the responsibility and get that done, then why not? Let them manage galleries with a set of guidelines on how we want galleries used and see how they do.
The bottom line is that this project, which began over just the cringeworthy gallery, is clearly segwaying itself towards a much bigger, more global issue: the messiness and clutter of image galleries overall and how they are managed.
That's a big job and we're going to need more hands on deck to deal with it. There's only so much time I can put forth with my own media powers and I'm supposed to be focused on forum management.
