also re: why keep old posts at all

one idea for keeping all these old posts around is you won't know how these will help research in the future, you may not see a lot of use in a couple of one-off posts on a memesite but maybe anthropologists of the future may be interested in web culture and data mine the site (along with many others probably) for the information they are looking for.

Agreeing that 5 seconds is a bit long, as one-liners can be read quickly. I think 2-3 seconds should be fine.

If a vote-switch can only be done like once a minute, I think this removes the abuse risk Loli shared (unless someone is REALLY dedicated in hating you but I doubt anyone would lack that much of a life).

Didn't even know the voting system got revised. Shows how often I upvote stuff.

I always thought the thing that really lagged site performance was the fact the site's code is held together with duct tape and shoestrings and that to really make things nice and smooth would require a complete gutting and overhaul of the code which will never happen since Cheezeburger invests its dosh in marijuana comedies instead of programmers.

If spam voting's straining the servers than I don't mind putting a reasonable cap on it, but if that's the case, why the restriction on upvoting old stuff? Are there really that many people who spam upvote year old content?

Chiming in, would like the vote changing, but will focus on the old content.

Unacceptable, old stuff is just as worthy of being liked or disliked as new stuff, not to mention that old stuff can get new exposure.
