Character Entry Category

Character entries are a bit of an issue for KYM. Characters, most of the time, cannot be said to be a true "meme" (unless they are actually something that mutates a lot), but rather, they simply have a large following that is notable. At the same time, we cannot call them "people" either since they are fictional. My solution to the eternal debate is to introduce a new entry category, the Character category. These would hold several different kinds of entries:

Entries for characters who are simply popular on the Internet for whatever reason

Entries for characters who were created by the Internet

Entries for characters who were created on the Internet and are based on fan versions of existing characters or are fan characters

Entries for characters who have a large following despite being insignificant their source material

Now, these guidelines may have to be a bit refined, but as long as we are judicious in our choices I think a Character entry category is well overdue. What do you guys think?

I think a Character category would be useful. I personally wouldn't refer to any of the ones you listed above as a 'meme' but rather as a character entity.

I don't know. A fan version of a character, or one the is completely OC, or whose personality is completely fan generated is just fundamentally different from a character that is popular solely because they are from a popular series, and whose spread is linked directly with the spread of that series. I'd rather not classify a character whose creation and spread is truly memetic (like say, Tako Luka or Ebola-chan) in the same boat as canon characters from popular series whose spread is limited withing the fandom (Five Night at Freddy's characters)

Of course, where the drawing line should be for something like this would be impossible. Sure, I know for a fact that Springrtrap will never be anything close to being an actual meme compared to Sanic, but a clear distinction is not going to happen.

I'm hesitant to say yes, but seeing as Don has made clear that literally anything can have an entry as long as it's well written, I suppose it's the best option.
