My progress in Black 2 stopped as soon as I beat the E4 and champ, because I'm waiting for Wsxdas to get a new DS so we can play.

The only ones I've completed are Diamond, White, and White 2. I practically stick to one game per generation (except for White 2 because it's an actual sequel). I never completed Red, Crystal or Ruby.

The very first game I got was Emerald, which I've beaten twice. Otherwise I've beat Blue, Crystal, Firered, Leafgreen, Pearl, Soulsilver, White, and White 2.
I never really realized how many Pokemon games I had.
I've made the most progress on Soul Silver, where my team is all around level 85. Leafgreen is my second best, where I only really trained a Mr. Mime to level 100. The rest of my team there is about level 55.

I've really only played 3 pokemon games, I beated non of them (yet).

I didn't even beat the frist gym on Yellow, My pikacuh was useless and back then I didn't have the patience to grind for the rest of my team that early in the game.

I had better luck in diamond until I found out that apparently you can't beat the eilte four by spaming metal claw with a sightly higher leveled empoleon, and because I did that thoughout the whole game my team was very under leveled, I never brother to level up my team so late in the game.

So when I play white I build my team like I'm about to fight the eilte four in a nuzlocke play though for every gym, so why haven't I beaten it even though I had it for a year? Maybe it's because of my attention span for games, I've been playing EoSD for the last 8 months and recently got arkham city so I usually play white when I'm very bored outside my house or at bed.

But some day I will get to the eilte four with a good enough team, only a matter of time.

I'd disagree. Best Wishes is ALOT better than D&P.
Unrelated: Can I just confirm with you guys that I am not high while watching this?

Yellow, Gold, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Platinum, Black and Black 2 hurr, and Coliseum, XD and Mystery Dungeon on the side.

We're posting teams? Heres' the team I beat the Elite 4 with, in the order of acquisition:

Skarmory, level 56
-Steel Wing
-Fly
-Spikes
-Roost
Traded away my Snivy after beating the first gym for a Skarmory raised to precisely level 5 with no extra experience from my Black. Also, check that Impish nature.

Arcanine, level 55
-Flamethrower
-Crunch
-Outrage
-Strength
Arcanine because Arcanine. Check that Hasty nature.

Flygon, level 56
-Rock Slide
-Crunch
-Dig
-Dragon Claw
Flygon because Flygon. Check that Hasty nature.

Ferrothorn, level 55
-Power Whip
-Gryo Ball
-Payback
-Thunder Wave
Ferrothorn because I didn't already have a steel type and plenty of good counters to fire at the time. Check that Brave nature.

Starmie, level 56
-Ice Beam
-Surf
-Psychic
-Recover
Starmie because I finally got my act together to counter fire. Check that Naive nature.

Weavile, level 56
-Ice Shard
-Night Slash
-X Scissor
-Punishment
Weavile because I realized that fire and fighting types were no longer able to obliterate my team. Punishment is also useless and there're no good physical ice moves. Check that Naive nature.

Basically, I played through the game like I was ten. My selection process was as follows: badass factor, Pokémon I have never played through with before and Pokémon representing each generation. Few fucks given about type coverage, though I made an effort to not build a team of Pokémon each with movesets of four attacking moves each of different types. 'twas a jolly good time.

Last edited Dec 06, 2012 at 12:29AM EST

ExudesAffluence, Weavile can has potential. It can learn via tutor or egg move Ice Punch which is a strong physical move mixed in with a chance of Freeze.

Nice team overall, but Marshal looked like he would've caused trouble.

For all that I complain about it, Ice Shard isn't too bad. The priority is nice sometimes and it hits dragons and the like hard enough since Weavile's attack is so high to begin with. X Scissor is the real problem, being weaker than Night Slash yet it can't hit anything Night Slash can't save other dark types. I might swap it for Brick Break, just since my team doesn't have a single fighting move across the board.

As for Marshall, he was the worst by far but really not too bad. Skarmory, as we all know, takes physical hits like a champ, and Leftovers combined with Fly made every other turn free recovery, since I couldn't use Roost or fighting would be made super effective. Starmie also pulled some weight, able to switch well enough to use Psychic a few times.

I don't know who I am, but I'm a fucking Dragonite. I'll take on your whole teams and win. Oh, and I deliver mail in my free time to random Pokemon trainers. Mewtwo was a fucking asshole of a boss, I'm glad he left, now I can deliver mail to anyone I want to. Now if only I could remember who or what I was before he turned me…

Good news, everyjuan!
Gamefreak has announced that they will announce something big on January 8. What do you want/think it will be? I hope for a Ruby/Sapphire remake.

@wailord

Interesting! I just played ruby agian and didn't like it much though, so I'm kinda hoping for something else. If that's the case though I'll probably buy it anyways and give it another chance.

Can you guys PLEASE help me name my Pokemon? It would be awesome if you could!! You can post the names on the thread I started, the link for it is down below.

@superunicore00
Frist since your new here I give you my welcome. Second there's no need to make a thread for your pokemon question when we have a Pokemon General, Infact the reason we made one was because at one point we had 7 pokemon related topics treading at the same time.

So if theres something you wanna post you should look around the forums for a thread to post in frist, if you can't find any thread to post in that's when you should make a thread.

And as for you question of what you should name your pokemon I usully derp on my ds screen thinking of what to name my pokemon, I say name your pokemon after other characters or people you think of when you think of the pokemon in question, Like for example you could give the name "Godzilla" to a Tyranitar because of how they look, just use your imagination.

I'm not great at naming Pokémon. I have a lot of trouble naming my rival.

First off, what's the Pokémon? I don't want to name your Garchomp "Silli Lili."

Or maybe I do.

My friend named his pokemon by their types. For example, he named his Dragonite "DragonFly." Charizard "FireFly." That can get odd when you're trying to name your Vileplume ""

Second, how do you use that Pokémon? Is it a tank that takes a ton of damage? A glass cannon that deals a ton of damage and faints at the slightest hit? Does it screw with the other team with Double Team's, Protect's/Substitute's, Confuse Ray's, etc.? You might want to base your name off of that.

Well, every Pokémon I've traded over Wifi has been nicknamed Rack City, with an OT of [Hosni] Mubarak, including the Torchic I just traded today. And the Archen I traded last week. So needless to say, I shouldn't be allowed to nickname Pokémon.

Here's a list I compiled of some of my favorite nicknames from my Emerald. Keep in mind I was not even ten back then. Case-sensitive and copied to the letter, misspelled "Flier" be damned.

Pinchy, the Flygon
IGLOO FRED, the Diglett
SQUELCH 1, the Walrein
BOBA, the Electrode
An entire team of Mudkips named for the penguins from Madagascar
Hobo, the Mewtwo
SUPER MAN, the Groudon
FEAR FLYER, the Crobat
GREEN, the Wartortle
RAZOR LEAF, the Bayleef
WATER GUN, the Croconaw
FIRE WHEEL, the Quilava
Chica-BOOM, the Lapras
SEASOR, the Seadra
Pinchy, the Flygon (again, because Pinchy and I go way back, and he's the coolest guy ever)
MUSCLE BOB, the Machamp
ZAP, the Raikou (the only one of my dogs with a nickname, which annoys me so much)
ZYNX, the Jynz
BRAD, the Crawdaunt
Prehistory, the Omanyte
DER, the Cloyster
Feathers, the Pidgeot
Jakey cake, the Slowbro
JUNIOR, the Blaziken
Hiccup, the Swampert (Hiccup and I got further back than do Pinchy and I)
MEOWOW, the Persian
3-D FLYER, the Porygon2
3-D FLYER2, the other Porygon2
PLYWOOD, the Togepi
TANYA, the Magneton
Pinchy, the Flygon (again, because I forgot to mention that Pinchy is actually a girl)
Pinchy, the Flygon (I wrote a really bad Pokémon fanfic about a Flygon named Pinchy)

So if you're looking for nicknames, I would advise either Rack City or PLYWOOD, depending on what role you intend this Pokémon to play.

So Valve has handed all responsibility for HL3 to The Pokémon Company? I'd buy. But obviously they're announcing a new My Pokémon Ranch. I mean, that's what the fans really want, right?

Hi. My name is YellowGiant, and I am a visual designer by trade. My role in the Pokemon Franchise is minor, but has grown as of late to include actually aiding the development of the central games. I don't design the Pokemon, characters, or anything like that, but rather I am an assistant when it comes to designing the 3D models that GameFreak has begun to utilize in the recent games. My first big project was aiding the development of the PokeDex 3D App models, basically more of a clean-up member of the crew rather than a main modeler. I looked things over and such, along with other lesser members of the team.

Regardless, I am quite excited to share a bit of preliminary information regarding the new games that I know on here, because this is my first major retail game I've worked on, and since the game will be revealed in a few days, I thought I'd drop a few hints among the English speaking Pokemon community to get you guys hyped up. No proper names, of course, but general bullet points of what you guys can expect. I don't know how much of this information is being released next week, although I know they're going to reveal the titles at least, and a New Pokemon, but I'm unsure if game screen-shots will appear. It's up to you if you want to believe this or not, but here's what I can tell you if you choose to believe me.

  • They are launching Three Versions simultaneously, collectively being called "Pokemon Trinity", but you'll have to wait to learn the names of the Versions themselves. There's more version exclusivity than ever before, and little cosmetic differences scattered about, but the focus here is not for an individual to buy all three…rather they're encouraging global and local trading more so than ever before.
  • The game is in full 3D, although many of the backgrounds mix in hand-drawn models like old N64/PS games did, think of like the drawn backgrounds in Final Fantasy VII-X for an idea of what it looks like. All the characters and Pokemon, the ones used in PokeDex 3D, have models. Because of this, they're introducing trainer customization…players can now edit skin color, clothing, etc. for their own touch.
  • The 3Ds is utilized in multiple ways…pressure-based (no more holding a button to run!) free-form movement as opposed to grid-based, utilization of QR codes and AR cards for various functions, and taking advantage of the improved Wi-Fi for some ambitious online play. The online functionality of this game is looking to be Nintendo's strongest output yet. GameFreak wants to make these the most social, globally-active Pokemon games yet.
  • There's going to be a re-haul of various mechanics, although Gen V Pokemon can be transfered over, but may be "altered" in different ways as the system will adjust them to fit the new game-play elements. This includes restructuring of the type-chart, changed base stats, adjusted evolution levels, and simplifying the IV/EV system to appeal to both new and old players. All the old Pokemon are set to appear, but will be distributed greatly among the three versions. They're emphasizing trading, and using the 3DS, trading Pokemon with people around the world is easier than ever.
  • Less plot-focused than previous games, more "free-roaming", but Gyms and the Evil Team still appear. It's an evolution of the Pokemon World (to fit in with the switch to 3D), as it's set after a major time-skip following Black and White 2…the new "Region" is actually a space colony reminiscent of those seen in anime such as Gundam and Nintendo's own Metroid. There's a large hub city which is the focal point of player-and-player interaction, and then multiple "biospheres" within the colony where Pokemon are raised, and where the Gym Towns are located. The biospheres open up as players obtain badges, leading to new free-roaming areas with more Pokemon. This setting, and the time skip, is being introduced alongside the changes in game-play elements to usher in a new "dimension" of Pokemon, you could say.
  • A new Type is being introduced, called "Digital", but that's the translated Japanese name and it may be different when localized. Digital-type is "neutral", no weaknesses, resistances, immunities, but when it's the secondary type (there's only one planned Pure Digital), it doubles the weaknesses/resistances of the base type. Fire/Digital is 4X weak to Water, 1/4th resistant to Ice. There are many new Pokemon being introduced, not as many as Unova, including a handful of Digital-types and plenty of new evolutions of old Pokemon that have appeared following the time skip. Due to this, they'll be new evolutions that occur naturally.
  • The mascot of the game is the only Pure-Digital Pokemon, it's actually the successor to Eevee…it doesn't evolve from it in-game, but was constructed using Eevee as a base. It resembles Eevee, except more reptilian and sleeker. It'll be debuting in the Eevee Mini-Movie, and is set to be revealed next week alongside the titles since it's a major player within the game. It's actually the lone Starter Pokemon, and all players start with it…its three, branching evolutionary forms are actually the Box Mascots as well. Utilizing the 3D models, this Pokemon has a unique and ambitious evolution system where its look will slightly alter depending on how you raise it, meaning that each player will end up with their own version of it more or less.

Just something I saw someone post. It's a rumor, and a fishy one at that, but it's fun to speculate and with big news on the way and the fact they've said they would "evolve" Pokemon in 2013, doughy as well post. While it probably fake, what do you think they will announce?

I think it will be either ruby/sapphire remake for the 3ds or gen 6 for the 3ds.

Well, the good news is that we don't have long to wait. About 18 hours now.

According to various tasty sauces, the news is going to come from a ten minute segment on Nintendo Direct (lolwut) that will air at 6am Eastern (8pm in Japan, I don't think Japan is big enough latitude-wise to encompass other time zones.)

Via Serebii:

This Nintendo Direct will be 10 minutes long and simulcast worldwide on each individual Nintendo site.

I'll likely be up at odd hours anyway, but I'm going to try to catch it live (and hope there's a translation for English-speakers on the Nintendo site.) Even if there isn't, there will be a translation about fairly soon.

I think that it could be the 6th generation of Pokémon games (I can't easily buy into the quote dac found, but it would be cool to have a couple of new types and more slight changes to the main game (e.g., there being essentially three champions for you to beat in N, Ghetsis, and Alder.) It's been almost three years since the Black and White came out (really! Sept.18, 2010 in Japan.)

Of course, it could also be Ruby/Sapphire remakes, which I would enjoy. Since the physical/special split, playing Ruby and Sapphire (or FireRed and Leaf Green) aren't as interesting. Waterfall on a Gyarados with a couple of Dragon Dances means something now. I'd also like to hear how all of that BRASS comes across with Generation 5 sound.

It looks like this site will hold the stream live for English speakers.

It's an English site, so I'd have to imagine that they'd translate it somehow. Now I think I might be the only one awake for this (not related to this,) but in case lurkers and other people not into Pokémon are interested, here you have it. Goes down in 15 minutes (6am Eastern) for about 10 minutes.

A quick recapitulation" Pokémon is announcing live a big Pokémon event and is airing it live. And instead of going back to bed straightaway, I'm going to stay up and see if this is:

  1. Underwhelming news (e.g., new anime, new game not from the main series of games.) These would be underwhelming news in my opinion.
  2. What I'm expecting (i.e., either the announcement of Generation VI or a remake or a previous series (likely Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald from Generation III).) However, people have been saying that its a little early to announce Generation VI and that Game Freak isn't making remakes of the third Generation, leaving…
  3. The unexpected, actually interesting outside of the fandom news (e.g., changing the formula of Pokémon's main series, ending the series, creating a game that incorporates all of the previous lands, Pokémon are real/get your starter free Eevee from President Obama.)

EDIT: Lagged on me like a mother.

Anywho, here's a video.

So it's a new generation to come out in October 2013. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

I think the big news here is that this is the release date for various countries (i.e., the Americas, Europe, Australia, and Japan.) So most of us don't have to wait several months to have a new Pokemon game (and I won't have to go online to hear what the music in the new generation is like…they'll never beat Aspertia City's theme though. No hometown theme can beat Aspertia City.)

If you don't want to/can't watch the video, then here are quick highlights that I gathered:

  • It's going to be on the 3DS, and it looks to be like a 3D game. The overworld still looks pseudo 3D. Doesn't look like you're doing jumping or anything. But the battle scenes are legitimately 3D and look like they're from the Pokemon Stadium/Colosseum/Battle Revolution types of battles.
  • Doesn't appear to show any really drastic changes gameplay-wise. No announcement of new types, no stated ability to travel across different lands, basically a new Pokemon game.
  • It also appears to be strictly for the 3DS. So if you don't have one, then you'll have to get one to play it.
  • Legendaries are shaped like the letter X and the letter Y.

I'm not super excited about it yet. Once more information comes out about it, I'll be better able to say whether or not I'm hyped. Unlike previously, I'll be able to know on my own without waiting for people who know Japanese to translate the gameplay elements.

But still. A new generation is a new generation. I'll get it, and I'll enjoy it.

Welp, since nobody else was awake for the announcement (cept madcat [and some non-IRCers apparently) I'll do the obligatory posting..

Pokemon X and Y! (inb4 jokes about Z being the Yellow/Cystal/Emerald/Platnium of Gen 6)

3D polygon graphics and only for 3DS. All 3 starters, 2 legendaries and 3D models of older Pokemon shown off.

A few images from the livestream..

Starters -

Y and X legendaries -

Personal thoughts:

Looks great that they've finally moved into polygons, funny how the backgrounds look mostly the same from previous gens. Also glad the attacks are actually attacks like Pokemon stadium but it remains to be seen if the new 'A wild X appeared' animation will become too tiresome, still interesting though.

Still sad it's not a Sapphire, Ruby or Emerald though. That's the game I wanted a 3DS for (screw you guys who hate on trumpets alone). Maybe someday.

And to finish off –

It looks alright from what they showed. The main legendaries look really meh, though.

Chespin is grass Oshawott.

It would be cool if they did the Dark-Psychic-Fighting wheel with their secondary types. Preferably the fighting secondary type wouldn't go to the fire one. A Grass Fighting would be pretty sweet looking. Also, the deer legendary looks a lot like Cobalion and Virizion.
Also: Froakie is master race starter.

SO. CUTE.

Oh man, dat chespin looks like he could turn out to be a pretty interesting grass type.

Also it's gonna be nice having 3D battles without the need for another stadium game.

Menthol wrote:

That's an idea…

However, I didn't even know you could trade online. I once put up a legendary for a Pokemon that I wanted on some Nintendo system, but I don't know how to trade directly with a player. I guess it would be as simple as trading friend codes to start.

I find myself lamenting the fact that it's an exclusive release for 3DS and not us cavemen with our DSis, but then I realize that Nintendo is actually moving forward and making new systems, which is more than can be said for the other game companies.

First time posting in here and I just wanted to say, I'm super pumped for Pokemon X/Y!
Oh my goodness you guys

To be honest, I have loved every single pokemon game/version I have ever played. I'll never hate a pokemon game. I don't even caaaare.
