With the death of Adobe Flash, I wanted to start a discussion about the flash games that me and many others have played over the years.

Other than Newgrounds, what websites did you go on to play Flash games?

I remember going on Hacked Arcade Games just to screw around in Super Mario Bros Crossover along with ArcadePreHacks. I also remember NotDoppler which would have new games every Tuesday. There was also XGen Studios which brought the Stick RPG games. I also remember Stickpage which had various flash games and animations of stick figures. Another one is MostPlays which was where I found a Sonic scene creator which was also found on Newgrounds along with early versions of Super Mario 63

What was your favorite flash game that also happened to be a fan game?

I think it would be Super Mario Bros Crossover, Super Smash Flash 2, A Koopa’s Revenge 2, and Super Mario 63

The former because of how much you can make each play through different though I wish Mario and Luigi had more powerups. Super Smash Flash 2 for being very ambitious and a huge improvement from Smash Flash 1 which was already ambitious. A Koopa’s Revenge 2 for improving from the original like Flash 2 and being a lot more ambitious. The great music choices also helped. For Super Mario 63, it also has to do with the ambition put into the game, what with being a full on 2D version of Super Mario 64 with FLUDD and a level editor.

What was your favorite flash game that wasn’t a fan game?

It would be a tie between Dad Game and the Henry Stickmin series

If there was a character in Smash that would rep flash games?

I’d personally go with either the Alien from Alien Hominid or Henry Stickmin.

Also does anyone here remember Final Fantasy Sonic X?

If I had to pick a favorite fangame, I'd have to go with A Koopa's Revenge 2 as well.

However, I have a lot of candidates for non-fangames, as I haven't really played much fangames that were Flash-based.

These are some examples:

  • Enigmata 2, a shmup that was just really fun to play. It's certainly janky, but damn if it's not fucking awesome at times.
  • The Robot Wants series, which has a compilation rerelease available on Steam. I had a lot of fun with these games, Ice Cream especially and I'm probably one of the few who knew about Robot Wants Y before the rerelease.
  • Versus Umbra. Take Ratchet and Clank and the Fallout games, squish them into a two-dimensional plane, and insert a really stupid sense of humor.
Other than Newgrounds, what websites did you go on to play Flash games?

Armor Games and Funny-Games. There were also a couple of French flash jeux sites that I'd check when I was studying French in school.

What was your favorite flash game that also happened to be a fan game?

The 2-D Portal game was pretty good, and so was the Power Puff Girls fighting game based on Bleedman's fan comic.

What was your favorite flash game that wasn’t a fan game?

Hex Empire.

If there was a character in Smash that would rep flash games?

He'd never be allowed in a family friendly Nintendo game given his games' subject matter, but Pico from Pico's School would be a good representative of Flash. He was in one of the first and most influential Flash games and became the mascot of a popular Flash portal. His Smash fighting style would be run-and-gun with weak physical attacks. Runner up: Fancy Pants Man. Alien Hominid would be my third choice. Dark horse candidate: Emma from Absalom, one of the first Flash RPGs.

Before going to newgrounds for flash games i used to visit a page called coffee break arcade i think the page still up, but there were a lot of java, flash and shockwave minigames. good times.

My list of best flash games:

- Xiao xiao games
- Dad n me
- Snowcraft ( i think this was made with shockwave thou)

annnd that's it, barely remember the name of the games. pretty sure i played a lot more of those.

Newgrounds was a part of my experience in playing flash games, even some nsfw ones that likely were a corrupting influence such as some anime ones made by Australians that made use of photoshop and l33t speak. That said, I can't forget enjoying some of the assassin games along with playing a few other games that covered genres in action, shooting, adventure, and sim dates. Never can forget the experiences in playing Exmortis 2 or one flash game where you're a janitor shooting kids with guns led by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Never did use other flash sites but I remember Armor Games popping up, especially when I played flash games made by a Christian Australian by the name of Godlimations. The adventure games he made would no doubt be heavy in moon logic puzzles.

My favorite flash game that was not a fan game is AdventureQuest. It still should be going on since Artix Entertainment, the developer, made a launcher that allows one to play it and their two other games, DragonFable and MechQuest.

When it comes to non Newgrounds flash stuff I recall mostly Stickpage, Armor Games, CrazyMonkeyGames. All I can remember off the top of my head though.
The latter especially for things like Thing-Thing games.

CrazyMonkeyGames, how could I forget them. Granted I never really used their site so much as Diseased Productions, the site behind the Thing-Thing games. Those were my favorite flash games, more so with each installment that came.
