A Genius is a reaction image of the character Isagi from the manga series Blue Lock with wide eyes and a hand on his head saying, "…A genius…" The reaction image is used to call someone or something "genius," both genuinely and ironically. The panel comes from Blue Lock chapter 162, released in Japan on February 9th, 2022, and in English on April 16th, 2023. It was popularized as a reaction image on sites including X / Twitter, Reddit and TikTok, largely in comment sections, throughout 2026.

Origin

On February 9th, 2022, in Japan, and April 16th, 2023, in the U.S., chapter 162 of Blue Lock was released. At one point in the chapter, Isagi describes football player Kaiser as a "genius." The panel was uploaded to the /r/BlueLock^[1] subreddit on December 2nd, 2024, as part of a discussion about foreshadowing, garnering over 215 upvotes in two years.

One of the earliest known, notable uses of the image as a reaction image and meme was posted by X^[2] user @CTurtlev3 on March 24th, 2026, posting it under the caption, "Denjis hypersexuality being cured by him having only 1 testicle now," a reference to Chainsaw Man, garnering over 52,000 likes in two months.

On March 26th, 2026, the image was uploaded to Tenor.^[3] The image was popularized over the next few months as a reaction meme on X and Reddit, appearing in the comments of many posts as a way of calling someone a genius, often ironically.^[4][5][6]

On May 11th, X^[7] user @Marciszek___ posted the meme as a quote-repost of a Limbus Company-related post, writing, "Giving Riensang the fell bullet EGO so that he can shoot the other house of spiders IDs so that Ryoshu can kill them faster," garnering over 5,500 likes in two weeks.
