About

Alpha Delta Phi Frat Hazing Ritual refers to a viral police bodycam video of a group of shirtless fraternity pledges standing in a basement during a police response to a fire alarm at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity in Iowa. The video was taken in November 2024 and released online in February 2026, going viral that month. As a meme, the footage is commonly shared as a reaction image and in image macros, accompanied by captions describing awkward group situations and dynamics, with the shirtless pledges representing the group.

Origin

On November 15th, 2024, Iowa police responded to a fire alarm at the Alpha Delta Phi frat house in Iowa. The police made their way to the basement, where the alarm was located, and discovered a group of shirtless fraternity pledges standing in the basement. Purportedly, they were participating in a hazing ritual. The police try and get answers about what they're doing, but nobody talks. Talking to two members of the frat, they try and get the contact for the "frat dad," but the frat members claim they don't have his contact information.

On February 17th, 2026, police bodycam footage of the incident was posted to the The CrimePiece YouTube[1] channel, garnering over 675,000 views in two days.

On February 19th, X[7] user @creatrix_ttv made a longform post defending hazing in the context of the video that gained over 4,900 likes in under a day, writing:

My old school sorority girl hot take that no one asked for: Until society can understand the psychological benefits of hazing, we’re going to keep producing weak infantilized adults. Humans crave rites of passage. The point of hazing is to mark a transition, to build trust, test commitment, forge strong bonds, etc, etc. Everything you experience has been experienced by those who came before you, and every experience is meant to instill a deeper lesson. (even if it looks or feels r-tarded in the moment or to an outsider.) Your belonging within the group is earned, because you can only truly value what has cost you something. This shared vulnerability accelerates bonding, a few weeks of collective stress creates more cohesion than years of casual socializing, and it's a beautiful thing when done correctly. It weeds out the psychologically weak, and this is GOOD because it is MEANT to be exclusionary. TLDR: Hazing can be amazing and these dudes (probably) did nothing wrong. I stand with Alpha Delta Phi!

Later that day, X[8] user @jeremykauffman posted, "Male spaces are illegal. Male rituals are illegal. Male companies are illegal. Feminine discourse and social norms dominate every aspect of modern society. It's not yet illegal to be a man, but we're close," garnering over 4,800 likes in under a day.
