The reaction image was first posted on X / Twitter in mid-August 2024 and spread over the following years. It was popularized through 2025 and early 2026 in TikTok comment sections. As a reaction image, the meme is used to call someone old for discussing or posting about something that is perceived to cater more towards younger generations.

On August 18th, 2024, X^[1] user @therealugs, aka Underground Sound, posted two images: a photo of FaZe Banks' face and a photo of FaZe Banks at a Nettspend concert sitting on the stage, yelling, captioned, "Bro your literally 40." The post reads, "THIS UNC IS GLAZING NETTSPEND 💀 Faze Banks, a 32 year old man, was seen glazing Nettspend at a FaZe event with a gyatt behind him 💀 Cringe," garnering over 9,500 likes and 750 reposts in about two years.

Spread

On August 18th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @nizzyhypetalks posted a video discussing the post by @therealugs and the photo of Banks at the Nettspend concert. In the video he defends Banks and refutes the idea that you can be too old to listen to certain types of music or enjoy certain things. The video gained over 48,000 likes in two years.

On September 7th, the The Library of Letourneau YouTube^[3] channel posted a clip from Northernlion's stream where he pulls up the post by @therealugs after someone in his chat asks him if he listens to Nettspend. The video gained over 250,000 views in about two years.

On December 5th, a post was made on the /r/playboicarti^[4] subreddit about Banks and Nettspend, gaining over 1,600 upvotes in just over a year.

The image continued to spread in late 2025 and early 2026, seeing increasing use as a reaction image on TikTok to call people old.

On February 6th, 2026, Instagram^[5] user fashcism shared the image, garnering over 34,000 likes in two weeks. On February 23rd, TikToker^[6] @talkden69 posted a video about the meme, saying it's a good way to make fun of him for talking about memes, garnering over 74,000 views in a day.
