Cole Sprouse Smoking a Cigarette refers to a clip from the Call Her Daddy podcast in March 2023 when actor Cole Sprouse (known for Disney's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Riverdale) was smoking a cigarette indoors while talking about his relationship and breakup with Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart. Sprouse's tone and mannerisms caused discourse on Twitter with many likening him to The Ick and reminiscing about his Tumblr Experiment. A still image from the clip of him holding a cigarette also became an image macro meme format that was paired with captions about being pretentious.
Origin
On March 6th, 2023, the Call Her Daddy podcast's Instagram[1] account posted a promo clip for its new episode with actor Cole Sprouse. The video received a notable but hidden amount of likes. Later on March 6th, Twitter[2] user @bettsandrews9 tweeted part of the Instagram video, specifically showing Sprouse smoking a cigarette and talking about his ex-girlfriend and Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart. Over the course of one day, the video received roughly 6 million views and over 270 likes (shown below).

On March 8th, 2023, the Call Her Daddy podcast posted the full-length episode to YouTube.[3] Sprouse took out a cigarette on two occasions. For instance, at the 44:32-minute mark (shown below), Sprouse started smoking his second cigarette just before going into a segment on his relationship with Lili Reinhart. In four hours, the video received over 7,000 views.

On March 7th, 2023, Twitter[4] user @nothnghppens reposted Twitter[2] user @bettsandrews9's video, captioning it, "he gives me the ick." The tweet received roughly 56,700 likes in one day (shown below).

The tweet increased discourse about Sprouse's interview. For instance, on March 7th, Twitter[5] user @daisyjfilms posted a reply reading, "why is he smoking INSIDE like 😭," which earned roughly 22,600 likes in one day. Around the same time, Twitter[6] user @brittanyzapataa replied with, "It’s giving rich white kid pretending to be a tortured artist ☠️," earning roughly 24,600 likes in one day.
On March 7th, 2023, Twitter[7] user @augustunder compared Sprouse's energy to Jughead's 'I'm Weird' Speech, earning roughly 26,100 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on March 7th, Twitter[8] user @MediumSizeMeech tweeted a screenshot of Sprouse smoking the cigarette, pairing it with the caption, "Zack and Cody? Haven’t heard those names in years," and earning roughly 1,700 likes in one day (shown below, right).
Others on Twitter[9] followed Twitter[8] user @MediumSizeMeech's example by pairing the Sprouse smoking image macro with related captions.
