About

Dice Roll Walk refers to a dance trend on TikTok started by TikToker toborowitz. To perform the trend, you slowly walk forward while acting as if you're rolling a dice with one hand, also slightly leaning your body to that side. Typically, multiple angles are spliced together to the beat of the song. Videos following the trend are collected largely under the hashtag #DiceRoll, which hit TikTok's trending page in December of 2020. The trend is set to an unnamed original sound by toborowitz.

Origin

On October 24th, 2020, TikToker toborowitz posted a video to TikTok[1] responding to a comment reading, "You're actually glowing like what's your secret" (shown below). In the video, toborowitz responds, "It's simple really, I just go for a daily dice roll walk" and proceeds to walk down the street dice roll walking as the camera switches angles to the beat of the song, an original by toborowitz. The video gained over 7.5 million views and 1.6 million likes in just over a month.

Spread

The trend slowly gained traction throughout the end of October leading into late November, when more TikTokers began making Dice Roll Walk videos. On November 20th, TikToker siennamaegomezz uploaded a video performing the trend to TikTok,[2] garnering over 13.7 million views in under 2 weeks (shown below, left). On November 25th, skiangels posted a video[3] in which multiple girls in ski masks Dice Roll Walk, garnering over 16 million views in a week (shown below, right). As of December 2nd, these are the two most popular videos using toborowitz's sound.

On December 1st, actor Avan Jogia, known for his role in Nickelodeon's Victorious, uploaded a skit to TikTok[4] captioned, "Risking it all on my daily covid dice roll walk" in which he performs the trend outside while wearing a mask and trying not to touch metal surfaces, garnering over 5.8 million views in 1 day (shown below, left). On the same day, comedian Howie Mandel posted a video[5] performing the trend to his TikTok page, garnering over 1.2 million views in a day (shown below, right).

Dice Roll Walk Videogame Edits

On YouTube, users began uploading videos of video game characters, typically from Roblox and Minecraft, performing the Dice Roll Walk. On November 25th, CamProHD uploaded a video to YouTube[6] in which their Roblox character dice roll walks (shown below, left). On November 22nd, 2020, Mars Candy uploaded a similar video[7] titled, "Dice roll walk" to YouTube with another Roblox character (shown below, right).
