About

El Cinco or The 5 is a slang term for the PlayStation 5, with "el cinco" directly translating from Spanish to "the five" in English. The term first appeared on TikTok when user @cubdih posted a meme reading, "when my house is genuinely getting looted but I peep them grabbing el cinco." It spread over the following weeks via similar memes, many of which are about robbers stealing "el cinco" or "the 5."

Origin

On January 11th, 2026, TikToker[1] @cubdih posted a comedy video where he films himself tied to a chair and struggling for freedom under the caption, "when my house is genuinely getting looted but I peep them grabbing el cinco," garnering over 3.4 million views in a month. This is the earliest known video to use the term.

Spread

The meme spread over the following weeks on sites including TikTok and Instagram Reels.

On January 20th, 2026, Instagram[2] user wokboby posted a meme about hearing the robbers talk about stealing el cinco, garnering over 635,000 views and 65,000 likes in a month.




That same day, Instagram[3] user 80kelii posted a version of the meme that features a math equation in place of "el cinco," the caption reading, "Aka el cinco," garnering over 520,000 views and 59,000 likes in a month. The equation is meant to be interpreted as "el cinco," however, some commenters claim it means nothing.

On February 7th, TikToker[4] @cursed.is.goated posted a meme captioned, "When the air fryer explodes but bro says the el cinco is still in la casa," garnering over 2.1 million views in 10 days.

On February 15th, TikToker[5] @torufujisakisdrinkeddrp posted a "wife's boyfriend" version of the meme captioned, "Me(48) when my wife's boyfriend(26) lets me stay up and invite my hbs over (8 and 7) so all 3 of us genuinely play on the el cinco and we start busting moves," garnering over 550,000 views in two days.
