Later, on July 1st, 2026, as the story of their climb went viral, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov were arrested for their stunt.^[3] Their charges included burglary and reckless endangerment.

On July 2nd, a second carousel of photos was uploaded to their Instagram^[4] accounts, the description reading, "@angela_nikolau and @beerkus are currently unavailable, and we knew this in advance – so this post was pre-scheduled and is now publishing automatically," gaining over 415,000 likes in under a day.

The story of the rooftopping couple went viral across social media in early July 2026, inspiring discourse, as well as fake AI-generated videos of their climb and memes.

For example, on July 1st, 2026, X^[5] user @Bubblebathgirl made two AI-generated posts of the two at the top of the building.

Later that day, X^[6] user @brasilizei posted, "when you're in a competition of who's more extra, but your opponent is the girl who climbed the empire state building with gel nails just to get proposed to," garnering over 38,000 likes in a day.

Also on July 1st, conservative political commentator Matt Walsh made a post on X^[7] reading, "Imagine risking your life, climbing all the way to the top of the Empire State Building, and getting arrested all for the sake of conveying the most cliched pointless Hallmark greeting card slogan message of all time," gaining over 17,000 likes in a day.

Later, Redditor DirOfdev posted a meme to the /r/memes^[8] subreddit showing the two flying a flag that references the Your Car's Extended Warranty meme, garnering over 5,200 upvotes in a day.

On July 2nd, 2026, Redditor sojud_18 posted a meme to the /r/trailerparkboys^[9] subreddit showing Trailer Park Boys character Ray sitting at the top of the Empire State Building with a flag reading, "What is drunk?" a reference to the show, garnering over 430 upvotes in under two hours.
