RCMP arrest 11 people near Coutts border crossing and seize a haul of weapons.

Alberta RCMP make arrests at Coutts Border Blockade Coutts Alta - The Alberta RCMP recently became aware of a small organized group within the larger Coutts protest. Information was received that this group had access to a cache of firearms with a large quantity of ammunition. The group was said to have a willingness to use force against the police if any attempts were made to disrupt the blockade. This resulted in an immediate and complex investigation to determine the extent of the threat and criminal organization. As a result of this investigation, the Alberta RCMP executed a search warrant during the early hours of Feb. 14, on three trailers associated to this criminal organization. This resulted in the arrest and detainment of 11 individuals. As result of these search warrants, the following was seized: 13 long guns handguns multiple sets of body armour a machete a large quantity of ammunition high capacity magazines An example of the militant mindset of a small segment of the protest, earlier in the evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a large farm tractor and a semi truck, both involved in the blockade, attempted to ram a police vehicle. The police officer was able to reposition and avoid the collision. RCMP officers followed the suspects to a location where the protesters were gathered. The driver of the tractor was identified and we are actively working to locate him so he can be taken into custody. The Alberta RCMP have seized the farm tractor and semi truck involved in this incident.

Ottawa MEMO I NOTE DE SERVICE To / Destinataire Mayor and Members of City Council File/N° de fichier: From / Expéditeur David White City Solicitor Injunction in Support of the City of Ottawa Subject / Objet Date: February 14, 2022 This afternoon, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice granted the City of Ottawa's request for an injunction addressing the widespread disregard for municipal by-laws arising out of the ongoing demonstrations. The Court agreed that the City's evidence of by-law violations (provided through GM of EPS, Kim Ayotte) was overwhelming and as such, the injunction will be issued today. In particular, the Court Order restrains persons from setting unlawful fires, discharging fireworks, causing noise, encumbering or damaging a highway by any means, and idling of vehicles in contravention of the Idling Control By-law. The granting of the injunction supports the City's position that contraventions of municipal by-laws have negatively impacted the health, safety, and well-being of residents and visitors along with the economic, social and environmental well-being of the municipality. The City's application was also joined by the Department of Justice (Federal) and the Attorney General (Ontario), who were granted intervenor status and supported the City's application. I would also note the intervenors were able to ensure that the provincial and federal law enforcement authorities were offered the opportunity to have input on the enforcement provisions of the injunction, as was the Ottawa Police Service. In keeping with my previous comments, I would reiterate that the City does not and cannot direct the police in respect of the handling of the protests, nor the enforcement of today's injunction. Rather, in concert with the recently enacted Provincial Emergency Orders, the injunction obtained by the City is intended to supplement the tools available to law enforcement authorities to address the unlawful conduct of protestors. The Critical Infrastructure Defense Act, passed in 2020, was created in response to Indigenous railway blockades protesting pipeline developments on Indigenous territories. This law was used to end Indigenous blockades – so the question that must be asked is why the blockade at Coutts is allowed to continue? If this blockade was being organized by Indigenous people, we have no doubt that authorities would respond quickly to remove the blockade and utilize the law that has been created to do so. The Critical Infrastructure Defense Act, passed in 2020, was created in response to Indigenous railway blockades protesting pipeline developments on Indigenous territories. This law was used to end Indigenous blockades – so the question that must be asked is why the blockade at Coutts is allowed to continue? If this blockade was being organized by Indigenous people, we have no doubt that authorities would respond quickly to remove the blockade and utilize the law that has been created to do so. February 13, 2022 - Ottawa, Canada - National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces "The Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) does not condone its members supporting and/or actively taking part in causes that jeopardize the apolitical imperative associated with their functions. I expect our members to act in ways that demonstrate Canadian Armed Forces values and ethics, and to uphold them both on and off duty. "This has been clearly communicated to our members through the CANSOFCOM chain of command. "I have recently been advised of allegations that at least three CANSOFCOM members have been, in some form or another, supporting the ongoing protests in Ottawa. "If the allegations are accurate, this is wrong and it goes against CAF values and ethics. The following actions are specific to each case: "On February 1, 2022, CANSOFCOM senior leadership was made aware of a case allegedly involving one of its members. The member is already in the process of being released from the Canadian Armed Forces. That said, a unit disciplinary investigation that includes this allegation was launched by the chain of command. "On February 10, 2022, CANSOFCOM senior leadership was made aware of allegations involving two other members. One of the alleged members, who is from CANSOFCOM, is also in the process of being released from the Canadian Armed Forces. Regardless, on 10 February 2022, I ordered that an investigation be initiated. "The other member in question is not a CANSOFCOM member. We have therefore notified that individual's leadership so that it may proceed accordingly. "If there are any other allegations attributed to our members, the chain of command will investigate each case and take appropriate decisions/actions. "Leadership and culture are and have always been critical aspects of focus for all members of CANSOFCOM and we are committed to a professional, effective and ethical force that can make all Canadians proud."
