Overview
Nicki Minaj Amsterdam Arrest Controversy refers to the arrest of American rapper Nicki Minaj in Amsterdam for allegedly carrying drugs. The rapper live streamed a conversation with police officers in the United Kingdom in which they asked Nicki to stop filming them and step into their police vehicle while Minaj said she wanted to speak with her lawyer and refused to turn the camera off. The event became a viral topic on Twitter (X), TIkTok and Instagram.

On May 25th, 2024, American rapper Nicki Minaj went live on Instagram while flying out from Amsterdam after cops detained her on her way to the United Kingdom. X[1] user @heavyonitbarbie uploaded a clip of Minaj's livestream in which she denies carrying drugs with the police officer (shown below). The post received more than 55,000 views and 731 likes in a day.

Developments
TMZ[2] reported that a spokesperson for Royal Netherlands Marechaussee military police confirmed they "arrested an American woman for possessing 'soft drugs'." BBC[3] also confirmed Minaj's arrest, stating that she was arrested on suspicion of exporting soft drugs before being fined 350 euros (£300; $380) and allowed to continue her journey.
Nicki Minaj's response
A few hours after Minaj's arrest, the singer[4] tweeted a message to her fans, saying she was detained in a jail cell for 5-6 hours, leading to the cancelation of her gig at Manchester's Co-op Live arena. The full statement (shown below) amassed more than 48,000 likes and 11,000 reposts in a day.
