Origin

On May 21st, 2025, TikToker^[1] @maheadfullofzig shared a video edit of an image macro showing a cat's head photoshopped onto a seal's body with a Papyrus font caption reading, "Fihh…" Over six months, the video received over 27,900 likes. The video is currently the first-known Fih meme.

On the next day, May 22nd, @maheadfullofzig shared the image macro on their Instagram^[2] account of the same name, gaining over 17,300 likes in six months.

Spread

On May 25th, 2025, TikToker^[5] @papyrusarea19 shared a video edit meme that followed a Papyrus Irony format, using a Papyrus font caption and the Rio de Janeiro Filter layered overtop a Fih image macro. Over six months, the video received over 38,700 likes.

On May 26th, Instagram^[3] user @seriousfishersonly shared a Reel with a Papyrus font Fih image macro that included a "Live Worm Reaction" box in the bottom right, based on the Live Tucker Reaction meme. Over six months, the post received over 16,800 likes.

On June 4th, 2025, Instagram^[4] user @john_porkerson_ shared a photo of a cat's head photoshopped onto a fish's body with a top caption reading, "Fih🥀🥀," with two Dead Rose Emojis. Over five months, the post gained over 9,700 likes.

Fih Shirt / Fih Is Calling

On May 26th, 2025, Instagram^[6] user @shopillegalshirts shared a post debuting a new graphic T-shirt with a "Fih is Calling" meme, based on the John Pork is Calling meme, resembling an iPhone's "decline or accept" call screen. Over six months, the post gained over 191,900 likes.

On June 6th, TikToker^[7] @cringeytees shared a video of another Fih shirt, showing a fish with sneakers and a Papyrus font caption, reading, "Fih." Over five months, the video received over 226,400 likes.

Both shirts attracted viral posts from others in the following months. For instance, on July 30th, 2025, TikToker^[8] @mschreiner15 shared a POV video skit called, "POV: that one friend who can't dress," showing a character wearing the Fih is Calling shirt. Over four months, the video gained over 218,000 likes.
