Funny Error Messages refers to parodies of computer error messages which appear to indicate a computer or website is malfunctioning while explaining the fake error in a humorous manner or real error messages engineered to be funny.
Origin
On January 22nd, 2005, Atom.Smasher[3] Error message generator was launched, which allows users to chose common error icons and add their own humorous messages. Two days later the site launched a gallery[4] of user created error messages.
Spread
On March 25th, 2007, a Wordpress blog titled "Oxygyan"[2] published a post titled "Collection Of Funny Error Messages…" On September 18th, 2008, Technologizer[5] published a post titled "The Thirteen Greatest Error Messages of All Time." On September 1st, 2009, Technosiastic![6] published a post titled "Custom 404 error pages that are cool, funny yet creative." On November 14th, 2010, Oddee[7] published an article titled "10 Funniest Windows Errors." On March 18th, 2011, Disruptive Conversations[1] posted a humorous error message Tumblr users see when they encounter an error while using the site.
On January 27th, 2012, YouTuber jackvids7[8] uploaded a compilation of error messages titled "Funny Error Messages (10 Mins.)." As of August 2014, the video has gained over 14,000 views.
On February 11th, 2013, Buzzfeed[9] published a post titled "The 28 Best Error Pages On The Internet."
