Geiru Toneido, also known as Ace Attorney Clown Girl, is a character from the 2016 video game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice.^[1] In June 2022, the character achieved viral popularity on Twitter after a fan Ace Attorney animation featuring the character went viral, with users hornyposting for clussy and posting fan art of the character.

Origin

On June 9th, 2016, the visual novel adventure video game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice was released for the Nintendo 3DS console.^[1] In the fourth episode of the game, Turnabout Storyteller, the character Geiru Toneido, a balloon artist and rakugo performer, is called to stand as a witness in the murder of her master and mentor, Taifu Toneido (clip shown below).^[2]

One sprite animation of the character, in which she grabs and releases her suspender straps, causing her breasts (later revealed to be two balloons) to jiggle, gained particular popularity online (shown below). Prior to May 29th, 2018, Tumblr^[3] user dj-ryamen posted the GIF of the animation, with the post gaining over 530 likes and reblogs prior to being deleted. On May 29th, Know Your Meme^[4] user Blue Sun Deluxe archived the GIF, with the post gaining over 29,700 views in four years. In the following years, the animation was posted to Tenor^[5] and other sites.

On June 22, 2022, animator Speedoru uploaded "Disgraced Attorney," a fan Phoenix Wright attorney animation featuring Geiru Toneido. In the video included the animation of Geiru adjusting her suspenders, with Miles Edgeworth acting horny for clussy right after she does that. The video gained over 1.1 million views on YouTube^[6] and 23,000 views on Newgrounds^[7] in six days (shown below).

Spread

On June 22nd, 2022, Twitter^[8] user @Glislock posted four frames of Geiru Toinado from the Speedoru's video, writing, "thank u speedoru." The tweet (shown below) gained over 4,500 retweets and 39,600 likes in six days.

The video and the tweet caused a massive surge in popularity of the character online, primarily on Twitter and Newgrounds. On June 23rd, 2022, artist Senrax posted viral fan art of the character to both platforms, with the tweet^[9] gaining over 3,000 retweets and 22,200 likes and the Newgrounds^[10] post garnering over 150 faves in five days (shown below, left). On June 24th, Twitter^[11] user @jace_funny posted a frame from the video, commenting, "She kinda bad tho." The tweet (shown below, center) gained over 1,500 retweets and 21,900 likes in four days. Later that day, artist ribosoma_42 tweeted^[12] a fan art / Clussy meme that received over 4,200 retweets and 37,800 likes in the same period (shown below, right)

In late June, Geiru Toneido achieved a massive presence on social media, with users posting fan art of the character and memes about her.

Clussy

Clussy is a portmanteau of the words "clown" and "pussy," falling under the umbrella of -ussy variations such as Bussy, Thussy and Thrussy, among others. Clussy came to prominence in late 2017 following the release of the film It featuring the character Pennywise the Clown. A Tumblr user first uttered the slang term in reference to losing their virginity to Pennywise.
