About
I Hope They Find a Cure Soon, also known as Just Donated to the LGBTQ+ Community, Hope They Find a Cure Soon, refers to a series of parody news article tweets using a phrasal template in which it's said that a celebrity or influencer has donated a large sum of money to the LGBTQ+ community, paired with the quote, "I hope they find a cure soon." The punchline riffs on the idea that LGBTQ+ people have a mental illness or disease. The memes often showed the celebrity in question next to an LGBTQ+ Pride flag. The memes spread in June 2025, mostly shared by queer Twitter users. The joke originates from memes initially shared in early 2020.
Origin
Use of the phrasal template dates back to January 7th, 2020, on X.[1][2] However, the tweets weren't viral. It's unclear where they drew inspiration from.
On April 14th, 2020, Redditor jiggytm shared a deep-fried meme to the /r/loltyler1[3] subreddit, showing Twitch streamer Tyler1 with top and bottom captions reading, "Just donated to LGBTQ community / Hope they find a cure." The post received over 1,400 upvotes in five years (shown below). It is currently the first known viral post with the snowclone.
