About

I Think I'm Gonna Die in This House are lyrics from the Charli xcx pop song "House," which became the source of memes and edits amid a trend in late 2025 and early 2026. The trend, which uses the song and its lyrics as they appear on screen over footage, began appearing in numerous edits shortly after its release in mid-November 2025, spreading over the following months.

While some of the memes are more serious and somber in tone, they later became more absurd and humorous by using the song's lyrics over funnier clips from TV shows, movies and other media. The trend later solidified into using the lyrics "I think I'm gonna die in this house…" first in a white text caption, followed by "House" appearing in red text.

Origin

The original song used in the memes, "House" by Charli xcx featuring John Cale, was released on November 10th, 2025, for the upcoming 2026 Wuthering Heights movie. "House" was uploaded to the pop star's YouTube channel that same day, receiving over 3.7 million views, 94,000 likes and 6,100 comments in two months.

The earliest known examples of the trend appeared in two different edits on November 11th, 2025, a day after the song's release, both on YouTube and TikTok.

An edit from YouTuber[1] Chrisbrockart on November 11th, titled "I think I’m gonna die in this Hereditary House," featured the song and lyrics in captions over footage from the A24 horror film Hereditary, garnering over 4,700 views and 160 likes in roughly two months.

Another edit from the same day by TikTok[3] user yjedittz similarly used the song's lyrics over footage from the Paramount+ thriller series Yellowjackets, receiving nearly 45,000 likes, 4,000 shares and 200 comments in a similar timeframe.

The following day, another early edit by YouTuber[2] feral4film that used clips from the 2025 Frankenstein movie was uploaded to the site, though it did not receive notable engagement.

Spread

The I Think I'm Gonna Die in This House trend continued to spread over the following weeks in November 2025, largely through serious edits that weren't funny in nature.

For instance, a Xena Warrior Princess edit was shared by Redditor summer_james2 to the /r/xena[4] subreddit on November 19th, 2025, receiving roughly 60 upvotes and 14 comments in nearly two months.

More humorous and unserious edits turning the trend into a meme began appearing on TikTok and YouTube in December 2025 as it evolved online.

For example, on December 11th, TikTok[5] user archer..lifeonfilm shared a meme using a clip from the Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs movie, accumulating over 400 likes, 140 shares and seven comments in nearly a month.

On December 30th, 2025, TikToker[6] myarogers6457 posted an edit using the song and lyrics (notably with the white and then red text captions typically seen later among the meme's popularization) alongside clips from Kung Fu Panda, receiving over 217,000 likes, 47,000 shares and 600 comments in a week.

On January 1st, 2026, TikToker[6] peep64 created another humorous example of the meme using various scenes from the TV show Young Sheldon, garnering over 1.5 million likes, 6,900 comments and 363,000 shares in five days.
