About
“I worked on this story for a year…” is a memorable tweet posted by American journalist Jared Yates Sexton in response to Donald Trump Jr.’s public disclosure of email correspondence between key members of Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russian businesspeople with close ties to Putin's government, a story which Sexton had long been working on for publication in the New York Times. On Twitter, the journalist's tweet quickly inspired a series of parodies featuring the same quote.
Origin
The meme originates from Jared Yates Sexton’s[1] Twitter comment about Donald Trump Jr.’s Email tweet. Sexton, an independent journalist who claimed to be working on the story, weighed in. On July 11th, Sexton wrote about how long he had been working on the story on Twitter, he said, “I…worked on this story for a year…and…he just…he tweeted it out.” The tweet[1] (shown below) received more than 39,000 retweets and 125,000 likes in just two days.
Sexton’s tweet went viral and Twitter users immediately started mocking him for working on the story for a year. This quickly evolved when Twitter users began quoting his tweet as a response to other tweets, images, and ideas.
Spread
The meme has spread throughout Twitter with users jokingly quoting Sexton as a response to less serious news related tweets.
The first known spin off tweet happened on July 11th, 2017, from Twitter user @amylopan[2] who was the first to use Jared Yates Sexton’s tweet as a response to another tweet. In tweet, @amylopan[2] responds to Larry King’s tweet “The more I eat Honey Nut Cheerios the more like them” by quoting Sexton, tweeting “I…worked on this story for a year….and….he just…he tweeted it out. @amylopan’s[2] tweet reached over 1,000 likes in 2 days.
On July 12th, Twitter user @maybetomhanks[3] tweeted his own take on the meme by quoting Sexton in a response Newt Gingrich’s tweet “McDonald’s grilled chicken mcwrap at 250 calories is both a dollar and pound bargain.” It gained over 6,000 retweets and 36,000 likes within the first 24 hours
Twitter users continue to use the phrase jokingly, using it as a response to a variety of tweets, images, and ideas.

“I…worked on this fan game for a year…and…they just…they made it themselves.”
I feel like Metroid Samus Returns would work better considering AM2R
A year, not a decade.
A year, not a decade.
5 years later, they're still making it.
He's actually suprised that someone in the Trump Administration accidently leaked confidential information via Email/Twitter?
His Response Should Be…
Yeah, but usually people need to more directly prod trumps to say stupid incriminating stuff.
Sean Spicer: "Alright Twitter, you twisted my arm"!

I'm actually kinda glad the "roasting" was not directly to the journalist, as he seems to have done no wrong, but is more of a Bad Luck Brian here. I might even be willing to dispute the use of the word "roasting" in this context, but I'm not in the mood for it, so I'll take it.
Yeah, it sounds like something that would happen to a character in a dark comedy. It's funny because his pathos is understandable.
Yeah, we are more concerned about the cock block itself, rather than the person involved. It is a nice, basic comedy situation.
It is a situation he wanted (the reveal of the meeting), but done in a way that completely negates his long work and effort. A perfect anticlimax to his struggles.
It is like spending 3 days doing all nighters for a project only to find out the teacher canceled the project and is giving everyong A's.

Felt a bit bad for him but like Homer says:
Then he should have worked on it for 364 days instead.

tfw a Trump meme spun off from a Trump Jr meme rather than a Trump meme

I worked on this story for a year…and he just…
And this is why you should never dedicate your entire life/job/free time/whatever to solely one thing.
Uh, the reporter was expressing shock at the heretofore unseen idiocy of Trump Jr.: this fool openly admitted the crimes his father has been accused of (and repeatedly denied). Just like the alt-right KYM to play it off as anyone in their right mind would be "mocking" the reporter!
Your country is going down the shitter because of these treasonous traitors, but you just keep on about "Pewdiepie" and other no-talent YouTube "stars", and I'm sure everything will turn our alright.
Dank memes! Trendy timewaste! All your base! Good luck, losers.
jajajajaja es buenisimo!!!!
