J.D. Vance Killed Pope Francis Theory, also known as J.D. Vance Is The Antichrist, refers to humorous conspiracy theories, jokes and memes claiming United States Vice President J.D. Vance is the Antichrist and one of the reasons for the death of Pope Francis in late April 2025. The politician met with the Pope a few hours before his demise was announced by the Vatican, spreading the theory on Twitter / X that he could be the Antichrist, a figure prophesied to oppose Jesus Christ and described as a person or power that is antagonistic to Christ.

Origin

On April 21st, 2025, X^[1] user @ycsm1n replied to an Associated Press tweet showing U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance's brief meeting with Pope Francis to exchange Easter greetings. In the tweet (seen below), the user claims Vance "is the anti-christ confirmed" after the Pope was declared dead four hours after he met with Vance. The post amassed over 6 million views and 391,000 likes in a few hours.

On the day of Pope Francis' death, a series of online theories and jokes gained traction, many labeling U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance as the antichrist due to the Pope dying shortly after meeting him.

For example, on April 21st, 2025, X^[2] user @kubaswift posted a picture of VP Vance and Pope Francis, writing, "This is all the proof I need that JD is in fact the antichrist." The tweet (seen below) received roughly 106,000 views and 2,900 likes in a few hours.

The "J.D. Vance is the Antichrist" theories also spread to TikTok in late April 2025, as user^[3] @hereiswhatsgoingon uploaded a video commenting on the subject on April 21st (seen below), which garnered over 45,000 plays and 2,100 likes in a few hours.

Also on April 21st, Redditor u/Sir_Bork posted a meme about Vance and the Pope's last interaction to the /r/memes^[4] subreddit (seen below), which received more than 3,000 upvotes and 80 comments in a few hours.
