Kane Parsons "He Is 20 Years Old" memes, or Kane Parsons Headshot, refer to a series of memes using a reaction image of YouTuber Kane Parsons, also known as KanePixels, director of the 2026 horror film Backrooms, showing him smiling slightly in front of a yellow background. The photograph is notably used by Parsons as a media headshot.

The portrait became the subject of memes in late May 2026, leading into June, due to its regular use in media about Backrooms. The meme is sometimes used as a stereotypical representation of a "White People Stare" to convey emotions of nonchalance, subtle judgement or a hard-to-define emotion. Some of the most popular memes play off the claim that Parsons is the youngest director ever for the studio A24 at 20 years old.

Origin

On June 11th, 2025, Variety^[1] published an article about then-19-year-old Kane Parsons directing The Backrooms movie, titled Backrooms, noting that he's the youngest director to make a film for A24. The article uses a headshot of Parsons on a yellow background.

On May 29th, 2026, X^[2] / Twitter user @gregthesorcerer quote-reposted a tweet reading, "‘BACKROOMS’ is outperforming expectations and is now set to earn $70+ on its box office opening weekend." The quote-tweet points out the "$70+" figure and jokes about Parsons' reaction to the film making $70 on opening night. It gained over 120,000 likes in six days.

On May 31st, 2026, X^[3] user @misplacedpaws posted an edit of a post by the DiscussingFilm X account, where it has been altered to claim that Parsons is two years old, making him the youngest director ever, garnering over 121,000 likes in four days.

Later that day, X^[4] user @TallBart posted an edit of the Parsons headshot that shows him with an extremely wrinkled face, writing, "2,000 year old Kane Parsons makes his directorial debut despite ailments," gaining over 11,000 likes in four days.

On June 1st, 2026, X^[5] user @Squiddayyyy posted the headshot, writing, "Backrooms director Kane Parsons recently had his father offer him beer. The young director swiftly declined, as he is only 1 years old 😳😳," garnering over 5,000 likes in three days.

On June 2nd, X^[6] user @AbattoirRecord posted a screenshot of a Google Search that shows how much the headshot was used in media about Backrooms, writing, "When you take a bomb ass photo," gaining over 203,000 likes in two days.

On June 4th, 2026, X^[7] user @kezottle made a post joking that Parsons thought he was filming Backrooms in the actual Backrooms, garnering over 9,600 likes in under a day.
