Origin

"500 Miles" is a folk song generally credited to Hedy West, who copyrighted it in 1961 through Atzal Music, Inc. The song became widely popularized during the 1960s folk revival after appearing on Peter, Paul and Mary's 1962 debut album.^[1]

One early example, posted February 22nd, 2026, by TikTok^[4] user @https.sillyedits uses the song with footage from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, though the video did not see much traction or engagement.

On April 17th, 2026, TikTok^[5] user @andthesunhitsherright posted an ironic edit with "Soo Miles," referencing various memes and viral videos such as Tung Tung Tung Sahur and the You Are The Youngest Person Ever / I'm Four Years Old video. The video received over 3.9 million views and 862,500 likes in about two and a half months.
