On May 3rd, 2026, TikToker^[1] @ybg.wallace uploaded a video consisting of two images. The first image shows Wallace from Wallace and Gromit with a fade and an N95 face mask that reads "cheese patrol." The second image is identical, except that Wallace is giving the OK symbol with his right hand. The video gained about 850 views in a month. This is the earliest known user to share the image.

The TikToker has since claimed that they created the photo using Grok, showing their process in a TikTok^[2] video. According to the creator, they started with a photo of a kid wearing a mask who was the subject of niche memes, known as the "Tuff Mask Kid."^[3]

The Ma Got Pranked meme began to spread in late May 2026, becoming the subject of some contentious memes and edits on TikTok^[4] and X / Twitter.^[5]

On May 27th, 2026, Instagram^[6] user er0ticassnlgga posted a low-res screenshot of someone sending the image of YBG Wallace to their mother without context. The mother responds, "What?" and the texter sends it again. An added text tag on the image reads, "Ma got pranked," as if sending her the image was a prank. The post gained over 56,100 likes in just over a week.

On May 29th, Instagram^[7] user worsthaircuts2012 reposted the image to over 7,000 likes in a week.

That day, Instagram^[8] users er0ticassnlgga and lordoldgen collaboratively posted an image macro using the YBG Wallace meme, reading, "Her: I only date boys with aura | Me:," garnering over 32,300 likes in six days.

On June 3rd, 2026, X^[9] user @sugarsmorecake posted the original image, writing, "this shit has been frying me for like 2 days bruh," gaining over 15,000 likes in two days," gaining over 15,000 likes in two days. The post inspired many edits in the comments section, including an edit of Young Thug's album cover for So Much Fun.
