About
Miitopia Mii Maker is a Mii creation tool which is a part of the Miitopia remaster for the Nintendo Switch. Upon the release of a demo version of the game, the tool was used to recreate popular characters and various memes.
History
On April 7th, 2021, Nintendo released a trailer[1] for the upcoming remaster of its role-playing video game Miitopia for Nintendo Switch. The player showcased the upgraded character creation system for Miis (shown below).
On April 27th, 2021, Nintendo released a demo version of the game that included the Mii Maker.[2][3] The announcement was followed by multiple social media posts in which users recreated various characters and memes with the tool.
Features
Similar to previous iterations of Mii Maker, the Mii creation system in Miitopia allows players to customize facial features, skin tone, body and outfit of their Miis, with the remastered version adding new customization options. In the remastered version, default Miis in the game's story can be replaced with Miis created or downloaded by the player.

Highlights
Within one hour of the April 27th demo announcement, Twitter[4][5] users @GameOfTheSky and @SuperstuHD made tweets about the upgraded Mii Maker, with their tweets gaining over 900 likes and 450 likes in one day, respectively (shown below, left and center). One hour later, Twitter[6] user @the_regressor posted an image that received over 260 retweets and 5,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).
Following the viral spread of the initial tweets, the trend of recreating various characters and memes gained viral spread on Twitter. On that day, Twitter users recreated Strong Bad, Giygas, Mario, Peter Griffin, Garfield, Kazuma Kiryu, Kakyoin Noriaki and multiple other characters in Mii Maker (examples shown below), with the trend continuing into the following day.
