About

My City Now refers to an image macro, exploitable, reaction image and catchprase derived from a panel of Meduka Meguca, a crowd-sourced retelling of the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which began on the 4chan /a/ imageboard in 2011.

The image has since spread out of context as a general reaction image, catchphrase and social media tag meant to signify that someone is alone or intends to take over a space.

Origin

On February 11th, 2011, the earliest known retelling took place on 4chan. The series consists of five separate threads which cover the entire plot of the show. The users acted out the series using bad-quality animation clips borrowed from the show and posts consisting of intentionally poor spelling and grammar, including of character names and show terms. One panel depicting a low-quality image of Kyoko Sakura and the line "my city now" became of particular note on Tumblr, where it was often used as an out-of-context reaction image.
