"My Desires Are Unconventional," alternatively known as "My Interests Are Very Singular," is a series of exploitable images from the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. It typically features a series of still frames from the scene where Grey introduces Steele to his room of BDSM gear, with the shot of the actual room replaced by a reference to a different fandom.
Origin
The earliest notable example of the meme was created by Patrick King and posted to his Tumblr blog on July 25th, 2014.[1] It features an edit of the movie's trailer, replacing Grey's BDSM room with a room filled with merchandise from the My Little Pony franchise. The post was linked to on the /r/mylittlepony subreddit on the same day,[2] garnering 512 points (92% upvoted) before being archived.
Spread
On February 10th, 2015, Vox published an article titled "There are more than 50 shades of grey. This meme proves it",[3] showcasing multiple tweets related to the meme, with examples from as early as July 2014.
