February 17th. February 17th. If we are to document these reddit thrends, at least wait some considerable amount of time. Usually by then it has either died down or in the rare case, spread some more.

I know right? I think a huge reason why there’s such an uproar over these “new memes” and subsequent KYM articles is because there is such little time between Origin and when it’s considered “enough spread worth documenting”.

There's no reason to wait. Making articles early is fine if we have something to start with, and it makes documenting their further spread and keeping track of their origin much easier. If they don't pan out, they are easily deadpooled.

Remember, the purpose of KYM is to document these phenomenon. Giving attention to the articles by frontpaging them or trending them can give an article attention from users who might be able to contribute to the article, whether by filling the galleries, documenting the spread, or even just cleaning up the grammar and format.

Many articles are created and never see the light of day (not that they deserve much attention). If you go to Upload an Image from the Images dropdown above the Trending bar, the image upload page will give you a dropdown list to choose the article gallery you want to upload to. It lists every article on KYM (minus the ones with locked galleries), including articles that have been deadpooled or are left in submission hell. There's thousands upon thousands of them, yet in any given month, we'll encounter no more than a couple dozen.
